Friends think it's strange

So I have friends from back home and they're fine with my engagement, they wish me the best, etc... But my friends from the US always have strange questions about my fiance. They joke that he is too old for me, that Indians are hairy and I just don't think what they are saying is fair. He is 10 times better than their boyfriends, he has a good job, he is a good person, smart, funny, I think he is handsome. What is their deal? They wouldn't say anything if I were dating a black man so why is dating an Asian so strange? it seems like a weird double standard.

Hi I agree with you. One has to go by the traits of the person and not just the looks or the nationality. Love happens and if you get the right person, you are blessed.

Hi bluehibiscus. Well, different people have different opinions. But if they make a joke because you're marrying someone who's "different" from them, then it's quite rude. It's not fair to judge a person by how he looks - how true. Some people are just not sensitive enough to others, but then, maybe they mean no harm. If they repeat it in future, then that's something to be concerned about. You've to tell them off then. So, for the time being, just smile at their jokes about your fiance as it could merely be a harmless joke (though rude). But if that happens again, you know what kind of people they are, and what to do about it. Good luck
