What are your "do it yourself" strengths?

I was raised by very independent parents with versatile skills, and it has served me well my whole life, never moreso than in this tight, tight economy. For instance, I cut my own hair and the hair of others, give myself a manicure, remove and wash my own windows and screens. I know how to knit and sew, and I can find my way around a tool box very nicely! Several times, I have done "minor" surgery on animals, or removed their stiches when a veterinarian did surgery on them. I am also handy with a lawn mower, well before I moved into an apartment What are some of the things you do yourself that many might hire done, or ask for help doing?

Hi Karen! It is good to know that you are 'jack of many trades'. I can also repair some electric faults all by myself and can do little bit plumbing and carpenting also. However, for major jobs, I depend upon the concerned mechanics and do feel like taking chances myself.

Hi Karen! I did not say that you are 'master of none', you may be.. I think it is always better if we could perform some house-hold repairs ourselves, rather than depending upon the mechanics.

Jack of all; master of none? LOL. It is very uplifting though when we are versatile and independent. You know many skills that should you hire those jobs done around your home would cost a lot of extra money! I admire that. Like you, however, I know when I'm in over my head and get professionals to do the major jobs. Have a lovely day. Karen

I can sew, so I can care of alterations and repairs on clothing. I knit and make gifts for others people. I cook and clean my own house. I am also handy with the lawn mower and doing yard care although I let the son do those things right now. My husband is handy with repairs around the house and on our vehicles.

Hi Yugasini. Yes, I think it is a good thing when males and females both are as versatile as possible. That, and I love learning new things and being able to do as much myself as possible :)) Karen

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, You are greatest among all greats here. You are all in one. The greatest slogan is taht you do nyour own job. This is greatness in you. Since my child-hood, Knitting/stitching/sweing has been my hobby and I never depend on this. These were major qualities seen among girls before my marriage as against both my DIls, who have not got even swing machine and they have to go to Tailor. At this age of 65, I keep knitting woolen swetors for my grand children. I feel special plaesures. Cooking is my another hobby, where my hubby too helps me. Doing our own job is a great thin. It will keep me young. May god bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, So nice for your excellent coments. AS we grow old, some problems do bother us, but my hubby always encourages me and counsel me to complete the task in given time. After all he ows soldier's qualities. The more we work till last, not only inner happiness, we ourselves become happy. May god bless You and have a great time.

Hello friend. Oh, I never feel great...but rather humble and grateful for all my parents taught me and for all God has given me. As with you, when I was a girl, we learned cooking and sewing skills (as well as other things, of course) both at home and at school. You are wise to keep doing your wonderful skills, as with the knitting. It keeps our hands and minds constructively busy and nimble. It keeps the spirit young. I commend you! Karen

I am pretty handy myself and I feel there is very little that I cannot do. Recently though I have started to feel like the whole point of working is to be able to sometimes pay others to do some of that stuff, lol.

I like making things and I like being able to do stuff like work on my own car or computer so I don't get stuck out but right now I don't have tools or a manual fr my current car and I can't find the startup discs for my computer. I need to do some electrical stuff, but that brings us back to tools. (Sigh).

Hi Canellita. Yes, there comes a point, at least financially, that it is nice to hire some of the difficult things we need done :) I agree, that is one of the reasons we work, not just to "survive" but to add some comforts to life :) Karen
