How to know if your idea has already been posted as a discussion ?

I have had 2 or 3 discussions where I found that some of the other members have already posted a similar discussion ... i am new here, can someone please help me out on how to find out whether your idea has already been posted? thank you...

Yes, lamb has given the perfect answers. It is a bit difficult to confirm all these things as we are in a mood to post and respond to other posts.
