Embarrassing (and costly) moments....

One time when I was a young mother, for no apparent reason, the clothes dryer wouldn't work, no matter what I did. It was a Kenmore, so I called the repair people at Sears to come and fix it the next day, which they did, and very quickly. Er....it had somehow come unplugged, and unless one of the kiddos got behind there, I have no idea how! Of course, they denied it. LOL. But...I still had to pay Sears' base service-call fee. NOW, when something seems not to be working, that is the first thing I check! What are some of your embarrassing (and costly) moments in life? Karen

OMG THATS SOOOO FUNNY! that has happened to me before. Well one of my most embarrasing moments would have to be when I was flirting with a guy and he took my backpack. So i wanted to take his but i was sitting in my school desk and I flipped in my desk with me in it from trying to get his backpack everyone in the classroom was laughing at me including my crush. Oh and did i mention i broke the desk. My dad had to pay $150 to the school to fix it. It was even more embarrasing telling my dad why I broke the desk.

Hi Kg...now that is hilarious, after the fact of course. I can well imagine your embarrassment when telling your dad or when all the kids were laughing. None of us likes to be laughed at! What ever happened between you and the crush after the desk incident?? Happy day to you... Karen

OHH AHAHAHAHA. yEAH ITS one of those things that like sux at the moment. But as time passes it gets funnier. Well my crush and I ended up going out. But he never let me live that down. Ohh i forgot to mention it happened in a class room full of highschool senior, juniors and sophomore. I was one of three freshmen there.

Oh no! I'm too embarrassed to say! But I will because it's rather funny now in retrospect....many years ago I was under alot of stress and was travelling around India. My husband and I were going through a rough newly-wed patch, and it was not a pretty sight !! Being so stressed and unhappy at the time, I found it incredibly hard to cope with India being from the U.K...we were involved with some charity work and it was one of those times in my life that nothing was going the way I wanted it! Anyway we had booked some train tickets to take us to from Calcutta to Delhi in order to catch a flight from Delhi back to the UK. I filled out some forms at the the Calcutta train reservation office and they issued me with two tickets. We had to come back in a months time to confirm our train reservation. Upon our return to the Office, a month later, I suddenly realized that the dates on the train ticket were wrong and that we would infact miss our flight by three days! I completely flew off the handle...and I mean COMPLETELY.....it was just the last straw, I so badly wanted to get out of India, and the thought of not getting on my flight was just too much. I had already been in India for 6 months, and couldn't possibly bare another month, because of the train reservation one month in advance scenario. India being part of the third world, is not the easiest country to deal with, everything works so smoothly in the UK and in India every LITTLE thing is such a headache and empties you of patience and tolerance when dealing with the Bureaucracy. So I basically had a temper epileptic fit! I just popped, and screamed the office down....(so embarrassing, but funny in retrospect, it was 10 years ago). Everything works very slow in India and it generally takes them ages to do anything in an Office, especially back then and they can be very arrogant and unhelpful. They told me that nothing could be done now, and one thing you learn is never take 'No' for answer. So this further unhelpful attitude infuriated me more, and I was absolutely certain that THEY had made the mistake when typing the date into the computer system, which they denied, anyway I basically took charge of the desk and started rummaging through all the papers and files for myself to find my original form so that I could prove to them, that the mistake was theirs...anyway what a commotion, it was like a hurricane had broken within me and I had just lost it. Papers flying everywhere. The drama caused alot of heads to turn and the whole office and waiting public just ghasped in horror, thankfully 3 employees rushed to my aid and searched their files for themselves, and an hour later my original form was recovered. To my shock and horror, it was not THEIR mistake but MINE...I had written the wrong date of train departure!!! They had infact keyed it in correctly!!! I was so embarrassed and didn't know where to put my head...... I was shivering and shaking, in the end I ran out of the office crying and cringing...and left my poor husband to pick up the pieces and smooth things over. But thankfully they gave us some emergency train seats in the end ...so all was resolved, I only wish they could have been more forthcoming in the very beginning. I was 26 at the time...and it has never happened since. I have learnt that I may be right 100 times, but there's always a chance that on the 101th time it will be my mistake. (Anyway, I have also had wonderful times in India as believe it or not I actually live here now fulltime!!!!! ).LOL

Hi Sri...I have ever thrown a tantrum, too, only to find out the mistake was MINE. Oh yes, loss of face, for sure. I've learned with the years lol, thank goodness! It wasn't costly in terms of money, but costly in the sense of loss of face.

I had one just recently we bought 2 receivers for satellite service back in MARCH we never bothered to read the fine print. We moved to a place where we cannot get a signal for the satellite dish and as a result we can't get the service and have to pay the company a $200 FEE to break our 12 month contract. Because they want to be nice they said they would take back the 2 receivers we bought and that it would cover the $200 fee even though they cost us $250 my advice always read the fine print.

Hi Isawu...ack! I had the same trouble with cell phone service (or rather NO service) a few years back. They would not let me out of the contract without paying the $200 fee! I'm with you...I've learned to read the fine print lol. Karen

LOL! That had to be so embarrassing and annoying that you had to pay their fee for something that really didn't need to be fixed!!

Eh, it makes me to think of my first working day. I was so fresh in a business environment and very excited. After manager introduced me to the stuff, I began my work. First, the HR department had some formulas for me. While filling them, I was a little confused and wished to ask for help. I took my telephone but could not get the HR connected, the line was busy for the whole morning. It was embarrassing to ask anyone else because everyone seemed to be very involved in work. Finally, I decided to trouble my manager. He was very kind to help me call HR with the telephone on his desk. That was O.K. Then he was even kinder to ask IT department to see whether my telephone was damaged. In the late afternoon, they came and laughed, because the telephoneline was not pluged into the telephone! Since our phone has an outside power supply, it seemed still work and made line-busy sounds like du,du,du... What a big fool I was! So PeacefulWmn9, maybe we are all such kind of people who are too focused on the task itself and easily lost in trouble shooting if the whole thing do not work as we think. Best wishes!

LOL Langle...that is so true! Often enough, I've been lost in the big details that I thought were of dire importance in correcting a problem, when in reality, it was the simplest of things, but I overlooked them lol. Take care and have a fun weekend! Karen
