What, is e-mailing going to someday go by the wayside?

I see all the time on TV, to participate, text ac22123, or whatever. They don't say or e-mail at... When my laptop went down, I would see go to www.something.com. I don't have texting on my phone and I don't want it. A perfect example of this is American Idol. The only way to vote is to text. And 5 or 10 years from now, if they comeup with something else, will texting go? Or, will cellular phones eventually not be able to make calls? everybody will be texting one another.
