Is WiMax internet service used worldwide?

Wimax, based on radio, is used in many countries in recent years. I used to connect world with xDSL and Dialup connection before. Now WiMax appears. I wanna know that Wimax is used worldwide for internet connection.

Actually, in many countries, WiMax internet is actually a relatively new technology. I think it is fast than previous EVDO/3G speeds, but LTE which is coming out, should leapfrog WiMax by a lot, so I have no idea why they came out with it.
