Well I wanted to continue the same discussion as the other day but it appears that I can't respond to my own discussions, only can comment on replies so here's the new discussion. How is everyone else doing?? are you tracking, speed or distance or both? Do you run track, road, trail, treadmill? I did my second barefoot run today on the road. I ran on the concrete along the sides of the road as I've learned that this provides a smoother surface which my feet like. It doesn't matter that it's harder than pavement...the smoothness is what is important for me right now. I did my warm up walk as normal with my bare feet, carrying my shoes. I ran about 1/2 mile and had to use the bathroom so turned around and ran the 1/2 mile back, making it a whole barefoot mile which was my goal for today. Though I was uncomfortable with having to use the restroom that I wasn't watching my steps or form very closely. I stepped on a sharp stone and got a small puncture wound on my big toe. It shot pain right up my foot and I regretted my being distracted immediately. I stopped running and walked to the house. Then I put on my shoes and continued my run for 1.5 more miles. I only got 2.5 miles today. I'm disappointed that I didn't do my 3 miles but time was against me. I had to get home to be there for the little boy I watch to arrive...Then he was about 15 minutes late so I actually DID have time to complete my run. Saturdays run is planned with no barefoot time. I'm going to let this puncture wound on my toe heal and work on getting at least my 5 miles with shoes on on Sat. I'll be posting a new thread with progress then.

I track my distance and my speed. It helps me keep up with my minutes per mile. I have watched it improve over the short time I have been running. When I first started rcording it all I was running a mile in like 13.5 minutes. I finally never run that slow now! I actually am hanging real close to the 11 min mark. I am hoping to get it on down around 10 min. pretty soon. For my age that's not too bad!

I'm also with you. Running about 11 minute miles and hoping to get it down to 10. I'm thinking that the time will improve as the weather cools down. I at least draw that conclusion from all the reading I've done. I had runnersworld spit out a training program for me for a 10K...and it seems to think that within 14 weeks I can be down to running a 7 minute mile. That's better than what I ever plan on being able to do. We'll see, though I'm not working on speed at all right now. I'm not even timing my runs right now.

That's pretty good. Right now I'm at the 10.5 minute mile on mostly flat land (very slight hills only). With my ankles this week I was going slower though. I want to get under the 10 minute mile for my next 5K. But now I am freaking out that I won't beat that due to my ankles. I really want to do well at this next one too since the whole group will be there.

The last 5K I ran had a couple of killer hills.... they were tough! Before I got to the hills though when I passed the first mile and they called out the time I was at 9:49.... couldn't keep that up though because of the hills.. but it felt good to be under 10 for the first mile at least! :)

Ouch! At least that's one injury I haven't gotten yet. ;) My ankles are still swollen, so no running for me again yet. Hopefully next Tuesday it will be okay to run. I'd prefer the swelling to be gone, but last time I ran on the track it didn't get any worse. Really standing seems to be the worst. Lounging lazily in the pool is the best, I am so bad! I hate that feeling of having to go to the restroom and then having to run for it. At the track where I run there are no restrooms right there, so if I have to use one I always end up doing the quarter mile street run to the gas station, and then coming back to the track.
