HI yo Recently I started a discussion in which I addressed my laptop overheating issues. Now I recently stumbled on a very effective solution. Basically its undervolting ur laptop CPU only. I decreased my 95c to a whopping 65c!!!!!!!!!! Too good to be true? Have any of u had issues with undervolting please warn me of the side effects. Cheerios!! PS:Anyone interested in underclocking refer this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824

I've checked your link and undervolting or underclocking has merit. A properly designed system has tolerance for it to work properly and what it does is reduced the operating voltage from tolerable max to near minimum. But base on your other post about overheating. This undervolting I believe will not work for you, because you are a gamer. Gamers pushes the system to limits. You have to look for other solution to achieve a cooler laptop. This is basically the advantage of a desktop over a laptop.

But in the given link its mentioned that performance of the CPU is not affected at all. I have now implemented the above mentioned method and can play games same as before!! Its perfect. U should try it man.

Good for you then Gamers usually wanted to play their games with maximum settings. High resolution, near realistic details, fast video rendering, enabled anti-aliasing and so on which of course is very calculation intensive - an added workload to processor and GPUs. These are mostly the reasons why gamers overclock. They even replace their power supply with a much higher rating to supply the extra juice. These added burden translate to heat aside from prolonged use. Overlooking a cooling system will surely toast their rigs. But it work for you now, I hope you could resist going there(extreme games) I don't do games really, still waiting for Diablo III, until that time I would like to try this undervolting. Thanks alexpaulrox for introducing this.

well thank you my friend. i face a big heating problem with my laptop from compaq. i used the information and tried it. i think it is effective cause i think i can feel some difference. but may be its just a physiological thing because when ever you try to do something you tend to believe in it and so the happening around you seems justified. any ways if this does not work the i am def. going for the fan that are available. one of my friend has it and he is very happy with it. so i think i will also use the same and see if it bring some difference.

Actually this feature is included in few laptops including mine. There are three different power modes to chose from - power saver, balanced and high performance mode. The names speak for themselves.. When I use high performance, the laptop consumes more power, thereby leading to excessive heating of of laptop. make sure you place the laptop on a flat place and provide enough space for ventilation on all the sides.

Thanks man for ur comments. This is something I recommend for those whose temp is high(80c) Others can of course rely on the power saving mode.
