I am so glad its school time again, yet, I am in college also. om...Have you done all your back 2 school shopping? Clothes, school supplies, and then the enormous charges for textbooks!! I am glad I only have child and my financial aid pays for my books.
I have all his supplies all ready and a few outfits. The outfits should be fine and have some he had last year. I feel he will grow so quickly that i don't need to have "tons" of outfits for him or the "name brand" things. I don't want him to get into that situation at such a young age and let him be "himself"
Are you ready for school?

Thankfully in college you don't need a ton of school supplies besides books and if you're smart and sell them back online you do make a good bit back, especially if you were smart and bought them used in the first place. For me per semester I spend about $300 on books and get about $200-250 back for them.
But for clothes I shop all summer so therefore it isn't a big dent and then its some paper and a few notebooks since for most my classes I'll just type notes on my computer.
Simple but yeah textbooks do costs a ton but still its the biggest thing I think.

I tried to sell a couple of my books back and of course, they got new this year. always seem to happen to me. ugh..
I go to a small community college so most of my normal jeans and t-shirts will work out fine, but my one classes I will wear scrubs (CNA) and I have a bunch already from where I worked but of course, for that class I have to have "white" and I got the pretty colored ones. :( bummer.
I am planning on getting a laptop so I can take much of my notes and thought of maybe a recorder so what I don't get I can go back and listen again to the lecture. Many will be hands on so that will help also.
I also go and shop during the summer and end of season clearances for my son and sometimes get the next size bigger so he may wear them next school year.

For selling books NEVER sell them back to the school. At that point you're getting only about 10-15% of the cost of them so the best thing to do is sell them on either Amazon, Ebay, or Half.com. Also Facebook has a marketplace section and its an easy way there to share throughout your campus because many students will end up taking that class the next semester. Its not that tough to do and just remember to ship the packages media mail so its a flat $3.99 rate no matter what the size/weight is.

I am so very ready for school to begin as it will allow for me to have more opportunity to get more accomplished with MyLot. Right now with all of the kids around my time is so limited and broken. I may get on here and then 10 minutes later someone is in need of something. Once school starts I will have several hours in the morning then a few hours in the early afternoon and then some of my time during the evening.

I am sooo ready also, but yet I will be going to school also. What I like about my son going to school I can get my house cleaned alot more and do some deep down cleaning and going through his toys, clothes also and won't have to worry about him getting stuff back out and wanting to keep :))

I just got home from back to school shopping actually LOL I'm really trying to take it easy on the school supplies this year, as much as I can. Fortunately, I keep a stash of supplies in my home office year round so the girls can always get what they need without constant trips to the store. My daughter's high school has switched to uniforms this year and it cost me around $400 to get her set up with what she needs. Then today, I had to get her shoes and sneakers of course. Plus the backpack and all. Ugh. My older one is in college so I'm just waiting for the textbook costs next. Oh! Transportation too - since she doesn't drive, she commutes by bus and subway. Then, add the high school "service fee" in there which is around $120. I'm never ready for back to school LOL

I usually always have pencils, pens, erasers and other supplies at home also since I am in school if he needs anything extra, plus with him in elementary school we have crayons and such also.
I am finally done with his supplies and clothes, just need my scrubs and gas money for classes. Transportation is my issue right now also, have a vehicle but gas is outrageous here and hope it goes down by the time I start. (cross fingers)
With my textbooks at college---taking five classes, the tuition, online fee for each, technology fee for each can pile it on high. You need college anymore to work anywhere but yet they make it so unaffordable many can't go. :((
I try to be ready but not for the costs!!! lol

I find it really helps to have the extra supplies because there are lots of really good sales at this time of year - like yesterday, I picked up Crayola coloring pencils for $1.44 a box. Regular price here is $5-$6. A four-pack of exercise books or 200 sheets of notebook paper was $0.33. Even though no one needed them yet, I know they're going to be required for something during the year so I'd rather save where I can. I keep packs of poster board/bristol board on hand too because they are always having to make a poster or a display for some project or another (and there's nothing I hate more than having to run out at the last minute because they have something due). With you being in school yourself, I'm sure it does help with your son's supply needs!
Even though the uniform costs were almost unaffordable for a lot of families, I think it'll be good in the way that we won't be buying clothing during the year (except if something absolutely needs to be replaced). I also don't enjoy clothes shopping with teenagers LOL So not having to do that was pretty ok with me :) Now all that is left are the hair cuts!
I absolutely agree with you on the college expenses. Where I live, my daughter (thankfully!) can go to the community college for almost no tuition (registration cost is about $150 per semester). Then I do pay for all textbooks, lab fees, printing and photocopying cards, even phys ed fees if the chosen course is given off-campus. Transportation costs are definitely hard some months but necessary. I'm enjoying it right now because when she goes to university for her advanced degree, the tuition costs are going to be a lot more... rock and a hard place, really, because I don't want to deny either of my kids the education they really want. I've asked them, though, to be prepared to pursue any scholarships for which they might be eligible and also to be ready to work part-time, if it's needed, to help cover costs. I prefer they don't have to work so they can carry the full course load and devote their time to their school work but, if it gets too expensive, they're simply going to have to help.

that is what I have been doing the last couple weeks was looking for scholarships and grants. I get a couple from the state but by next year I may not qualify and don't want to take anymore loans; have too many now!!!
good luck

I am in third year also and then have my son's elementary school supplies. Just luckily right now he is set, we do have some places around here that will help if we need it but I feel bad trying to use those places and some make you feel like sh!$% when you go in and ask for it.
I start in two weeks and my son starts next week.
I also have my textbooks already so I can get an early start on chapters 1 and maybe 2 in all these classes and try to get ahead!!! (probably just wishful thinking) lol
