Do you cook something special on a rainy day?

Here it is raining, and rain means rich food for all of us at home. Especially my husband, he asks for deep fried snacks. It is fun to eat them with hot tea and watch rain...I normally make this snack of eggplant(thinly sliced) coated with chick pea batter and deep fried. It is normally served with puffed rice and tea.
Do you have any special rain food? How do you eat it? Watching rain with your loved ones?

ON a cold rainy day i like to make a big ol' pot of homemade vegatable beef soup. I love to make cornbread to do w/it. chili is also good on a cold rainy day. U didn't say anything about the temp but when i think of a rainy day i think about a cold day.

Malpoa, you are making me hungry, I love spicy goods. One day you should try a beef stew, they are lovely, very traditional winter food, but only spicey from black pepper and bay leaf, so not spicy at all actually. The Greeks add lemon to theirs as they do to almost everything.

I have never had beef soup. But we do make this preparation which can be called as something near to soup family. it is made with a lot of spices, onion, ginger garlic and with all possible lentils. It is an arab dish and is called haleem. It tastes yum...
Abt not mentioning temperature, I thought it was understood that I meant any cold day. Yes u guessed right.

When the rain starts we all think of making Dalwada( pakora masde from green moong dal) and pakoras made from various vegetables like onion, brinjal, chilli, bread, bannana and so many other things and the other thing you most enjoy in rainy season is having hot and spicy makai recipes(sweet corn in different forms). Thanks

Hmmm I have had this snack made of green gram but we make it sweet with molasses grated coconut,a pinch of cardamom and deep fried after dipping in a batter of chick pea. It tastes very good...:))) You just reminded me of that...I should be making it very soon.
By the way can u please tell me how ur take corn kernals off? I find it very difficult to separate corn...boiling the entire thing reduces teh nutrients right? Please tell me how you guys do it there at your place.
the other day i ate a corn in fenugreek leaves preparation. it was simply yum...
thank you for writing in...I hope you will respond to my request.

Watching movies with hoards of snack is a delightfull experience...But that too on a rainy day...I have never tried that. Here we do not prefer to watch tv on a rainy day because, the sound of rains is strong that we have to raise the volume to high. Even if we close all windows and doors it hardly helps. It is during a heavy rain time that all the members of the family gather around the table, dig on snacks, tea and gossips.

Hi malpoa, for me winter, rainy days mean comfort foods, as it will be cold at the same time. I like to have a big pan of beef casserole with dumplings in the oven for later whilst something like buttered crumpets and tea whilst it cooks.
We have fried aubergines here in batter too, but I've never heard of them done in chick pea batter, may have to give it a try.

Yes in chick pea batter, it tastes better than just aother batter made of corn flour or plain flour. It brings a golden colour to it and if you add a pinch or so baking soda, the snack will turn out fluffy. Sure, during cold days, body bats for more food to keep our body warm. Im not sure about the metabolic rate but I guess that is why we eat comfort food in more quantity.

In my country there are special thing that you do on a rainy day. They are "sopaipillas" ans it´s made with flour, cooked squatch, an egg and sugar. You make round thin breadlike things and fry them.

Besan mixed with bread? U mean bread pakora? Yup even Im not a beverage person but take any rainy or cold day and I am more than happy to indulge in a cup of hot coffe or tea. I just cant resist the smell of freshly grinded coffee near cafe coffe day...Hot food, both temperature wise and its chilli content are also a good idea on any rainy day. Here in begal, we dig into ilish(hilsa fish) made in mustard sauce with rice. it is a hot favourite here.
