Plan on RVing across North America, but I am concern about the Canada-US border.

I keep hearing stories about the longest and friendliest non protected border in the world, US and Canada's border. I am Canadian and is looking forward to crossing over to our wonderful neighbour's country (eventhough we have many simularities).
This concern about the USA's extended and mass funding towards Homeland Security, are we going to meet up with GunHoe US border guards trying to justify the spending? Will they scrutinize us for being possible threat to the USA? What if they don't like French Canadian, beaver eating lumberjacks? Should I be worried?
In any case I plan on arriving at the border with open arms and a friendly smile, the same way we treat our guess. Do you think the border guards will get offended if I bring them maple syrup as a token of appreciation?
