How does credit union work?

So, how does credit union work? Does it work like a regular bank, accepting customers deposit, withdraw, and offer higher interest rate for you saving account or CD? I never join a credit union before, and wonder if it would be better than those gian banks like wachovia and Bank of America. Sometimes, they charge too much junk fees with a reasonable purpose. They seems trying to rip people off.

Yes, credit unions work like banks. You can have savings accounts, checking accounts and so on, and get loans from them. The interest rates on their loans are usually lower than banks.
