Do you use nightlights in your house?

My oldest child tells me she'll sleep in her bed alone the whole night if I buy her this fancy one she saw somewhere. I laugh at her because it's just a ploy to get a night light but she'll never sleep in bed all alone. *sigh* Now back before we had kids we did use them quite a bit but n time they burned out and the kids would always unplug them & fool with them so I figured it was safer just to leave the hall light on & put in a dimmer switch.

i hate the darkness not because i'm scared but because i can't see! so i really need nightlights around. the dimmer switch is a great idea though for less electric bills.

You can put the switch on pretty low so you can see decently w/o bothering anyone & w/o jack'n up your electric bill.

My step daughters have a dimmer switch in the bedroom, and my stepson has a night light. Of course I dont trust him with the night light to far, he almost burned the house down a few years ago according to my wife with one. So I plan on changing it to a dimmer switch. You would think at the age of 12 that he wouldnt need any lights. Not with the back porch light right outside.

I would agree he should be ok @ 12 w/o one. I hate to know what he did to almost cause a fire, I bet you are glad he didn't

we do have a night light in the back of the kitchen, but we also tend to leave the light on over the range and since installing the ac in my front room, the light that would be for the front door stays on. I have been known to cut off the range light some nights.

I wish I had a range light I think I'd use that too. I have a small one above the sink I use especially on nights I work late.

I don't like the sink light because it shines more in my bedroom than the range light, that goes into the kitchen more.

we used to have lightnights that sat in the bathroom kind of and use them if my nieces are sleeping over... i used to use one when i was younger. i like them, they give enough light at night when ur sleepy that you can see without having to turn on the light and go blind lol

Yeah there's nothing like going blind in the middle of the night by flipping on a regular light & really waking yourself up to the point you can't go back to sleep w/o much effort.

I have my granddaughter who lives with me along with her parents. My granddaughter has two nightlights in her room. However I just learned when my daughter came back to live with me that she needs to sleep with some type of light on because she is afraid of the dark. She is 28 years old. LOL LOL LOL. I can only sleep in complete darknes.

I hope my daughter isn't that scared of the dark when she gets that old. 6yrs is plenty old to me! Then again I want my bed all to myself & hubby of course.

Yes she even says she wouldn't stay in the house overnight by herself. I can't believe it. I laugh because I can't believe at her age being afraid.

I don't have children, and on't use nightlights per-se, but i do have a small, low wattage lamp above my bathroom sink that stays on all the time (well, except the past week or so, as the bulb burnt out, i don't have one the right size to fit it, and keep forgetting to get one at the store) I have lived in my house for so long that i can get around it in the darkest of the night, but if i do have to wander into the bathroom at night, i like to have the light so i can know i am not going to go splashing into the toilet bcause m brother or the boyfriend left the seat up!

We use some nightlights in our apartment. We have one in our bathroom. We have one bathroom and it's in our bedroom so we leave the door open and have a nightlight in there in case one of us must get up in the middle of the night. It's just easier. We also occasionally use one in the kitchen area so we can see what's going on out there in the middle of the night, not to mention in case we need a drink in the middle of the night we don't have to turn on every light in the place to get what we want. It's just easier and it saves a lot on our energy bill too just by using small night lights that we unplug each morning.

A dimmer switch is such a great idea. I did use a night light until I was fourteen years old. I know that seems old to use a night light, but I'll tell you something else. I slept with the "big" light on until I was ten. There's a reason, but I don't want to go all Lifetime movie on you. Anway, I don't have night lights in my apartment, but I think my parents should have one in their room at their home. I don't know how many times they have told me about falling or tripping on the way to the bathroom (they have one connected to their bedroom). I would think a night light might help direct them a bit!

Yeah I think that would be a good idea for them to get one. I know that's when my mom used to fall alot was when she was half awake trying to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

I use them when my mother is staying with me and when I have family visiting overnight. When someone isn't used to a house, it's easy to stumble or fall down the stairs in the dark instead of going into the bathroom. Otherwise I don't use them, they draw electricity whether they are on or not if they're in a plug. Compromise with your little girl. An ordinary night light then you'll make her favorite cake or something, if that saves you money. There's nothing wrong with giving a child a night light if it eases their fears. Just unplug it when not in use. And don't get the new low energy ones, you can't see a thing and it's almost worse than nothing. Get the ones that take the 4w bulbs that actually cast some helpful but dim light!

We have two nightlights. One in my son's room and one in my daughter's. My son will still wander in our room some nights though. I think my daughter is starting to outgrow the nightlight. She now tells me to turn it off before I go to bed at night.

I don't use nightlights now because when my family moved to a new house the neighbor's outside light is so strong that it penetrates into our rooms that giving us sort of a night light LOL. But I did have some cute night lights back then when I was still in school. It was color red, then I bought a green and a blue.

Our neighbors outside lights don't reach to their room I'm afraid. Plus I had them put in a lower watt bulb cause it lit up our bedroom and the living room like it was daylight & that got a lil annoying after a while.

We have 6 children and one of our sons has got to the stage of waking up being very scared but even when we leave the light on he then will not go to sleep.I am thinking of getting a night light so that i can see to get in his room without having to put the main light on as he sleeps in the same bedroom as his brother.Hope you get your light sorted all i want is sleep.Happy Mylotting.

I agree, I want me sleep too! That's why I hate the co-sleeping but I demand a decent nights rest! We have a hall light by the bedrooms hubby put a dimmer switch on so we could see and not use a ton of electricity.

i have a couple for mom.it makes it a little easier for her to navigate at night. that way she can estimate where the back of the room is when turning on the main light.

I've had a couple night lights through the years, but they didn't last long. The kids would play with them and lose them and whatever else. We don't use any sort of lights at night here. Once we go to bed, all lights in the house are off. The kids haven't seemed to have a problem with that.

We have a zero watt bulb in one of the rooms. It gets very dark at night and one would easily bump into the furniture or the wall. Most of get up at night to drink water or go to the loo. So we keep the bulb turned on at night. Its much better than turning on the tube light which likely to wake others who are asleep.
