The Ten Commandments and Christians.

As a child in Sunday School I was expected to learn the ten commandments, which I did and in the long form as well. Later I learned that Jesus had summarized these laws in a much shorter and simpler form. I also learned of what's called the golden rule, also the words of Jesus, and which when followed would fulfill all the law. so why do we need the ten commandments?

The modern society has set free the minds of our younger generations. The principal merits do need to be repeated from time to time, so that while enjoying material wealth, we do not forget the purpose of life, and contribution to the family and society.

the ten ten commandments are the base of all Abrahamic religions, even in Christianity the ten commandments are the Only way to have the eternal life, according to the words of Jesus PBUH the ten commandments are sacred, and no where in the bible Jesus said that the ten commandments never become applicable, to the contrary, Jesus commanded his followers to be more sticky to the ten commandments.

Jesus didn't Come to destroy the law, or the prophets, but to fulfil.

Jesus commanded his followers to be more sticky to the ten commandments so that their righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees by being more sticky to the ten commandments and ( Matthew 5:21-48 ) explains how can their righteousness exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees.
It should be noted that it was Paul who canceled the Law and therefor the ten commandments, and IMO Paul is nothing but a mere deceiver, Paul didn't see Jesus at all, Paul taught ANOTHER Gospel! Why else did Constantine and the Pagan leaders take out the books of the disciples and put in Paul's! To lead YOU away from the truth and into a FALSE Gospel!

Paul never met Jesus and he came with a Lie about seeing Jesus in a vision, this vision is nothing but a lie of Paul, Just read about it:
[ Acts 9:7 ] And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
and
[ Acts 22:9 ] And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.
and finally it should be noted that the ten commandments are presented in the Holy Quran and therefore, Muslims also follow the ten commandments, those who canceled them follow Paul not Jesus.

Hi Gordano, Thank you for that very interesting response and I tend to agree with you about Paul, a lot of his teachings are far different from those of Jesus. I did not know that the ten commandments were also in the Holy Quran. I believe that if we follow Jesus's command to love God and our neighbour as ourselves, then we will be keeping all of the commandments. I believe that Jesus was just talking about a different way to look at things. Blessings.

I think we need the Ten Commandments because they're specific in how we're to love God and our fellow man and exactly what our duty is toward both. Different people can have different opinions on what "do unto others..." means. Even Jesus chastised the spiritual leaders of His day for misinterpreting the meaning of some laws. Sometimes it's necessary to be both specific while, at the same time, boiling it down to its simplest form.

I think you are talking about the commandment "Love your Neighbors" that's so true.......I think if we just follow this one commandment of "Love" I feel we are fulfilling very commandment.......we wont kill, we wont covet neighbors goods, we wont think about any other god, we would obey our parents, etc.......it certainly sums up every thing......but then it is really very difficult these days to "Love" someone......specially when people re busy and frustrated with their work......there is so much of hatred around and it is really difficult to be a cut from the rest..........
If we pray god does give us the strength we need to love everyone around us and to keep all his commandments......

Only those who had Jesus Christ accepted in their hearts as Lord and Savior can fulfill the Law. Even Paul says, "It's no longer I who live but Christ lives in me." So, if we have been crucified with Christ, meaning by repenting and turning away from sins, accepting Christ as LOrd and Savior and baptized by water and Spirit, we can fulfill the Law of God because it is Christ Himself who dwells in us who fulfills it. It is being united and crucified with Christ. It starts by being born again and continues in everyday life.

Why do we NOT need them? They aren't even allowed to be in public schools anymore, but what harm could 'thou shalt not lie' (bear false witness), and 'thou shalt commit adultery' do? They don't seem like bad rules to live by. The Golden Rule in fully realized form probably came later (?), so back then they needed some guidance. I find them to be good guidance for me now.
*Now let the ripping into my post begin. Not you, Pose. You're too classy to rip into a person. But I just can't wait for someone to tell me how stupid and anti-freedom I am by my post content. Man I get tired of stating my opinion in a non offensive way only to get blasted for it.

Hi AmbiePam, I agree that the ten commandments were needed when they were given. My point is that that if we follow the summary of the law which Jesus gives, it's the same thing. Jesus made it clear that to love God with all your heart and your neighbour as yourself was the fulfilling of the law. My only thought was that perhaps Christians should concentrate more on the way that Jesus looked at the law. After all he was very critical of the leaders of his day and the way they interpreted it. Thank you for commenting and of course the ten commandments are still good, I just prefer to look at the positive rather than what I think of as the negative side, to look at how we should live rather than how we shouldn't. Some times Humans need things set out in detail and still they will argue. For instance Thou shall not kill. But we all know righteous killing and war with the enemy is ok. Right? Questions, are not all humans God's children? And so on and so on. Blessings
