Where is the best place to hid money in the house?

Cash Box - A typical cash box quite similar to what I have. But mine is blue in color.

I have heard from friends about where they always hide some extra money in the house for some emergency purpose. I have a girlfriend who just happened to find about $500 hiding in a old biscuit tin when she was clearing her store room. She was happy and surprised to have this small windfall. So, I ended getting a treat to a nice tea session from her...hahaha...=)) I am quite absent-minded, so I dare not keep my extra money in many different places. I just keep my extra money in a small cashbox hiding underneath my stack of towels in the cabinet. My mother-in-law keeps her extra money wrapped in zippo bag in the freezer. I was wondering whether does she needs to de-froze her money before used. But I don't dare to ask her....kekeke...lol...Please share with me where you hid your extra money in the house or any recommendation for the best place to hide the money. Cheers o

I read a piece not long ago that was written by a burgular saying where they don't look. There were several places. One was in an empty pop can just sitting around. Another was in a box of female pads---or a box of tampons. What burgular in his right mind would look in those boxes??? HA ! unless you are as old as I am and don't need those anymore ! But, I hide my money in the freezer too. And, no you do not need to defrost it ! I think the best place in a jar and buried in a stack of rocks outside. I live on a mountain, and it's all rock so I'd have to spray paint the rocks just to find my own money ! Still do not hide money under your towels or under your mattress ! First place a burgular would look. Use you imagination :)

Cool !!! I like your idea of hiding the money buried in a stack of rocks. I know most thief will look into the cabinet or cupboard. Hmm... think it's time for me to find a better place to hide my money. Cheers =))

At least you have enough money to worry about hiding it LOL Just make sure the lid of the jar is tightly closed. They have rubber rings that seals fruit jars from food getting rotten in them. Ask your grocer where the canning products are the rings should be with the jars. HOld on to your money, the economy is getting much worse.

thhoon, you sounded like those old times, when our old grandmother does not have a bank to keep her money, she will keep in a biscuit tin and hide in under her bed. Those jewellery, and money are the ones that they keep in case of anything happen to them on the final journey. And I can remember, my grandma having her money folded in handkerchief and stuff under her pillow, apparently she think that's safer, coz no one could disturb her money when she sleeps.. and I laugh, when I see you note that your MIL put her money in the freezer, I have more concern if she cooks it accidentally... Anyway, I don't think any more places in the house is safe to keep money.. I will surely keep my $$ in the bank, since nowadays banks have offer much convenience in withdrawing $$ for emergency

Hahaha....oh yes, I also do remember my grandmother carefully keep her money wrapped in her handkerchief and hiding it under ther pillow......My mother still hide some of her money in old biscuit tin hidden in the bottom rack in the kitchen cabinet. I also agree that the safest place to keep money is in the bank. Cheers =))

I also have a fireproof box, but I keep important documents in. I mostly keep mine in old antique candy dishes that I know no one touches. I have other places like canisters I do not use. Don't ever put it in the mattress because it seems that is the first place a robber would look. Whatever you keep your cash in, it needs to not be in plain view of all eyes that come in your house.

For me, I am more about worrying about fire in the house rather than theft. So, I think getting a fireproof box is a good idea which I will consider. Thanks for the response. Cheers =))

I always find that the best place way to hide money is to put it in a zip lock bag and put it in the toilet tank. Always works for me and I have been doing it for 2 years. I know it sounds strange but it works and there are five others in my house.

In "slicks". Like inside fake electrical sockets...in books, inside cheap-looking statues you make yourself xD Unexpected places that a thief wouldn't think of. A pro will always look; In your matress, they'll take entire safes if they're not bolted down, and locked jewelry boxes, in shoeboxes, in the closet, in kitchen cabinets, and in boxes in the garage... So it's gotta be kinda inconspicuous. Subtle. Inside the house itself, alot of the time. I wouldn't recommend behind paintings xD And you should always consider what would happen to that money if your house burned down. Alot of people nowadays bury their money...but that's mostly 'cause they don't trust banks, not because of thieves -- oh wait, maybe that's the same thing. xD

I don't know anywhere in the house that is good to hide money plus if I do hide it in the house it won't give me interest so what's the point? if criminals come to your house, you will have to give them the money or they will take your life if criminals steal money from the bank, bank will be responsible to restore the savings or govt. if it's a heist which one do you think is safer? if you have over $ 5,000 it's better to keep $ 5,000 in the bank and the rest for investment to get some return

The best place to hid money in the house should be in the roof or chimney. But wait my friend why did you ask this? This is a critical things for many people. I don't think someone telling you the truth about this...To tell you frankly I prefer to hid it in the roof because there is no person consider the roof being the place to hid money..lol have a great day!

I think If I have more money. It is not wise to hid it in our house or vault. I will invest some in a business and put in bank the others... That is the best way to handle money not to hid it or put it in anywhere in the house. Since this is only a matter of discussion I agree all of the people decide to hid there money on there home... have a great day!

most of the time , i hide my money in the books. but if not more, i always put them in the wallet, and then put it in my bag. in fact, i'm an absent-minded person too. i still can remember one year i found some money in my Phone Book, which i planned to throw away. it gave me a great surprise, seemed i picked some extra money up free.

Waw! Your mother-in-law really creative in finding place to hide the money.. Ask her, and let me know her answer,LOL,, Well, I put my money in many different place, in my wallet, in my jeans pocket and under my bed.. I get this idea from my mom who hide her money in shoes box and plastic bag. That plastic bag so crumpled that other people (include me) will not know there's quiet big amount of money inside that black crumpled plastic bag. One day she show me and I really shock. It looks like a bunch of trash from outside.. My auntie give me $100 in chocolate box as a new year gift and I put that box in refrigerator for 1 week before I decided to eat it while watch tv and found the money inside it! I think the best place to hid your money is in ugly place (like crumpled plastic bag) or in candy tin. Hope you will find the best place to hid your money and let's your child have a big surprise when they found it!

That can be the case.. But maybe you can save it inside your cupboard, don't put it in any place.. I'm sure your hubby or you won't throw away something inside cupboard often.. In case there's a thief or someone try to look inside your cupboard, they won't find the money and think it's just a bunch of nothing..

thhoon72, In my opinion, keeping amounts of cash larger than what we need in our house or hiding in some obscure place is just unnecessary. Especially, when we have the vast majority of businesses going cashless and banks are having round the clock services. So, I would advocate the bank than some biscuit tins or freezer compartments. Bank cards are so readily acceptable and accessible, so much so that carrying large amounts of cash is something of the past. Besides, it is just impractical and risky. In this case here, my family and I do not hide or hoard cash at home as it is just too risky to either loose it when we forget the place we hid the cash or be stolen if a burglary happens. Cheers.

thhoon72, A few hundred dollars is a normal and logical amount to have in one's personal possession and storage, but anything more than that will only be asking for trouble. Habits can be changed and this is one habit I would rather change than keep.

I also agree with you that the safer place to keep money is with the bank. Maybe it is just a old habit. I just feel more secure with a few hundred dollars near me. Thanks for your response =))

I don't hide money anywhere, but if I were going to I think I'd put it in some sort of container and then hide that container in the attic inside the insulation. That stuff itches so much I can't see anyone wanting to mess with it if they don't have to.

I save money up for seperate things so have three differents pots that it goes in and then it is all locked up in a cupboard and only I have the key. Normally I would not keep it locked up as it is already hidden away in the pots but my boyfriends daughter is very nosy and goes through your belongings and has been known to take stuff. It's very annoying as I'm hiding everything and feel like a prisoner in my own home. The best place to hid money is somewhere that is safe and does not look like it has any money in it.

It is annoying though but it is the only way I know where everything is and that it is safe. I just miss being able to relax and not having to constantly check that I've not left any money laying about and that my wallet is on me. I even have to keep things like DVD's and make up either locked up and carefully hidden.

I also don't like other people looking through my belongings. It looks like you got no privacy even in your own house. So, it is right that you locked up your precious things in the cupboard. Take care =))

LOL Well if I had any money to hide, I probably would hide it in different area too. I would have to get someone that I really trusted to write down where I hid the money at, because it probably would be in just a weid place that not even a theif would know where to look. If I was to write it down and keep in a safe place, I probably would forget where that place was too.
