Fond memories of dinner at Grandma's house

One of my favorite childhood memories was having Sunday dinner at Grandma's house. My Grandma Lizzie was a great cook. But, then, who's grandmother didn't know how to cook. We would all gather around the the huge dining room table. I remember the food lined up on the buffet table. I remember being one of the children that was allowed at the dining room table. The others sat at the card tables in the living room or at the kitchen table. That was one of the benefits of being Grandpa's favorite. I can still recall the smells, the tastes, the laughter.

Yes, I have fond memories of the whole family eating Thanksgiving dinner, their plates piled high. I grew up back east and we had creamed corn and rhubarb pie along with all the other traditional foods. I love stuffing and canned cranberries the best. I also recall when my sister and I spent the night at grandmas house we got to eat off of red tv trays and we thought that was so neat. I remember too, sitting at the picnic table outside and having homemade ice cream and green beans for dinner that my sister and I hated. When no one was looking we threw our green beans in the backyard, I'm almost LOL right now just thinking about that time. The other thing I loved at grandma's was when she baked pies from scratch and she let me eat the raw pie dough, I loved it. Good Memories.

I can remember having sunday dinners as well. But as I got older. They got further and further in between. I wonder why that is. As now I would love to be near my family to have sunday dinners.

I wish my house was big enough to have my kids and grandkids over on Sundays. The only time we all get together is Christmas or during the summer when we can all sit outside.
