Canada

We have 2 laptops in our home, mine is toshiba and has built in restoration and the other does not, the other laptop is made by acer, the acer company does not provide disks and the back up disks that were made from the program provided on the computer do not work. the laptop starts up and once it gets to the desktop it gives a message asking to prepare for memory dump. I have no idea what was done or may have been downloaded to cause this but now we have a practically new laptop we can't use. anyone have any advice?

well when you first start your laptop you will of been prompted to make a set of back up discs I know not many people do it tho. I assume you havent, as if you had you could use the back up discs that you will of made on the first start up of your pc. If not then have you spoken to acer am sure they be able to advise you better than on here.

Several weeks ago, I also have the same problem. I tried to search on ACER website and do some download on driver. It is not help to solved some error message during restarting. When I have send to ACER service centre for repair that they suspecting only Motherboard? It is really costly (price closed to brand new laptop). I tried to install ubuntu 9.04 linux that it's work with no error.

So far, the Ubuntu linux is easy, free software (They can send it to your home, free) and no virus. Anyway, Did you tried to install on windows at first step?

Go to the Acer website look up your model (on your Toshiba laptop that's working of course!) and search for the recovery CDs (DVD). You can probably purchase them or they may have an option to burn them. You'll need to get all the drivers and utilities. Have you considered going into save mode to search for the problem? You could do some recovery operations before reformatting the whole computer, right?

hi there, you can go to this URL http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/downloads.html so you can download all the drivers and utilities needed for your laptop. you can check your model number at the lower right part of your screen, it's embossed. be sure to list all the name of those drivers before reformatting your disk.

I think now any new computers of all brand are not provide the back up disks. They all put in your harddisk, you can use the special button to reformat your computer. If you don't know how to do, you just ask the engineer of Acer to help you to rebuild the system. And if you want th back up disks you should make it youeself.

Hi, if you have the other computer, grab the gparted .ISO and burn it to a CD using ImgBurn. When you load up the computer, go to the boot menu and select CD/DVD drive, follow the instructions and the rest should be obvious once you get into the Live CD program.
