I just quit my job, and am actually feeling quite happy about it. If you were in my shoes, what's the first thing you would do? How would you celebrate? (Or would you celebrate at all?)

Well, it would depend. Did i quit my job because i have another one lined up that i will be more happy with? If that is the case, then i would probably go out with friends, have a few drinks and a good time, celebrating the change in life. If i quit my job because it was horrible and i just coudln't take it any more, but didn't have anything else lined up, i probably woudln't do much in the way of celebrating, as i would be very nervous about what i was going to do now...how i am going to pay bills, and what not, and i wouldn't want to be spending any money until i had another paycheck coming in.

That's a good point. I ended up celebrating by taking my kids to a u-pick blueberry farm. Lots of giggles, little cash. It's a win-win!

If I quit my job and I've another one waiting for me, I'd be really relieved that I'm leaving for something better (hopefully). I wouldn't celebrate; in fact, in our culture, my colleagues would have a farewell lunch for me. That in itself is a "celebration". Other than that, it's going to be a normal day for me. I'll just go home and be prepared for the new job.

I probably wouldn't celebrate, but I'm not in your shoes and I couldn't ever imagine quitting my job. It's my means to an end; 110% necessary for me to work 24/7 in order to pay all the bills on time & stay afloat financially. So I don't think I would ever be in the position to quit unless I had another job lined up. You could have a girls night out. And go dancing or drinking or whatever you enjoy doing. And then..I would figure out a backup plan (if you need one) and get back into the job market somehow! Anyway congratulations! And good luck!

I will be celebrating after quiting my job if I have another job waiting for me. I have bills to pay and other needs, I can't be jobless and expect other to pay them for me. My mom is capable of paying her needs but I can't expect her to pay mine too, I am too old to be independent with my mom. I think you better find a job fast. This recession phase isn't over yet, you might find yourself in a tough situation.

Thanks for the advice :- ) I am way too old to be dependent on my parents as well. I'm married with kids! As for the job, I literally couldn't afford to keep it. Odd, huh? But I have other things I can do for money. :- )

We almost have the same feeling when I quit my job last year.. But it depends on your reason, if you quit because you are not happy anymore with your job, well that's the best thing to do. But if you quit just because you want, without any reason, well you must think of applying for a new job.. that's just an opinion..

Hi, I am happy to know that there are people like you who are still happy when quitting a job. When I last quit from my job, I was only happy, I was relieved and I celebrated by eating out with my family with my last pay. Then I bought something for me as a momento of the last pay I had when I quit my job.

If my job is already giving me a headache (not because of pressure huh!), for sure I will celebrate! But for sure, I will also have a hard time thinking of what will happen to me after my resignation. How can I pay the bills? How can I survive in this very money-centered world? You can celebrate at first but then in the end you will realize that celebrating is not necessary! Happy MyLotting!

In this time of bad economy, why did you quit your job? Or are you quite well off? Then celebrate the way you like, just go on rocking.

I find it amusing that you would think I'm rich because I quit my job. That's a logical assumption, I guess. I quit my job because "my income was less than my outgo," so to speak. It wasn't paying me nearly enough to afford my babysitter and gas to travel to and fro. Bottom line, not a great job. I'm better off saving the cash I'd spend on a babysitter and doing freelance writing from home. Thanks for the comment!

quiting a job is not something easy my dear friend, and for you cheekysuze, congratulation if you are able to do that.. why did I say quitting is not easy.. coz I feel that having my job is like having my partner.. the job gives me the power of staying with a full tummy instead of going on hunger, and with the money earn, I am able to looks good and pamper myself. I have always attempted to quit, however will always fail since I don't have the courage.. recently, I quit too, for the sake of my little baby.. As for you, or even me, once I quit, I will hit my friend's phone numbers to enjoy a small gathering.. at times, due to work, we are all lack of communication and meeting, and once we are off the shoulder, I think it's good to meet up and announce this great news. I do wish you have a job in hand, and should you don't all the best in securing one..

Lets face it, 90% of the jobs out there suck, so you really do not want to be working in a life draining job anyway. Well, I did in fact lose my job in real life, and believe it or not, the first thing I did was to start a money making Blog. It is beginning to work. It is important to do something you enjoy, that is something you love to do, sincerely, Jim Cassa
