Hi vkprincedark, Both are protocols use to display a webpage. Usually most secure content like payment transactions and other important stuffs are carried out in HTTPS protocol. HTTPS uses a secure socket layer for transmission. This layer tends to avoid eavesdropping from others and HTTP is not good to this. I think gmail uses HTTP only. I have seen only paypal and some like bank transactions are done through this HTTPS.. I hope this will help you.. Cheers

More over HTTPS uses a SSL(secure socket layer) certificate for transactions. I have worked in this platform hence I have some knowledge here I hope...

Hi friend. I think only for the initial authentication gmail uses HTTPS but it uses only HTTP.. Do you see the http in your address bar when you view your inbox? Cheers

Yes, HTTPS is more secure than HTTP rather it is the most secure protocol. It uses SSL(Secure Socket Layer) certificates which ensures the validity of user and server. Hence it provides more security. All the major websites , mostly finance related websites uses SSL technology. You will see a padlock in the of your browser which ensures that website is secure and all the information will be encrypted.

As far as i know. Https encrypts the information it sends so information can't be intersected (by hackers probably). And its costly to have a https connection
