Does your child stay awake late night before exams?

My son has the habit of preparing for the next days exam by staying awake late night till he is satisfied with his preparations. I always keep on warning him that he may fall asleep in the examination center. But, so far nothing has happened and he is quite active and fresh when he leaves home till he writes the exam. My daughter on the other hand cannot even stay awake a little more than her usual sleeping time, she revises all evening and goes to bed at the appropriate time. Both of them are good in their academics. Do your children also have this habit? Do they stay awake late night or sleep regularly.

I think the way a student prepares for exams depends on the nature of the student and which way they are comfortable with. I have seen students like your son and also like your daughter. I think it is better to let them do as they like. I don't have children. When I was a student, I used to revise my lessons during evening time, but used to stay a little late and get up very early to revise the lessons again during exam time.

i stay up the whole night before my exams. I also go over notes weeks before but I always stay up the whole night the night before the exam to review. Sometimes my mom would wake and see me but she's usually content that I'm serious about studying.

No. My sons do not sleep regularly. They prepare for the exam, until late at night.

I have one seven year old nephew at home. Now a days the pressure of education on child is great and the tension on my child face during the exam is a testimonial to this. Yes, he tried once to revise and revise at the cost of his sleep before exam, however, my brother stop him and let him sleep. It has no benefit and at least my experience says that the result of the exam don't get better if one is awaken late night before the exam. The recalling power certainly degraded because of lack of sleep which obviously has negative effect on the result.

Hi yogambal! If your children are still in high school, you must insist that they obey you and get that important night sleep. Things change a bit when they are in college. The study habits had been set. If they choose to stay awake for an exam, probably they need to. I do not advise it but sometimes, the burning of the midnight oil is necessary.
