Review of Citi Field

Here is my unbaised review of the new Citi Field - I am a Red Sox fan, thus making my feelings on Citi Field unbaised. I went to my first game at Citi Field yesterday. I had heard different opinions on it, but now I have seen it for myself. I think my favorite thing is the openess of the stadium. You can see the field from any concourse level. I was sitting on the promenade level - the top tier - in the second row. I could see everything except the outfield directly below my seats. There are lots of screens around, so if I missed a play on the field I could just watch the screen. Since it was so brutally hot, I ended up staying in the concourse for most of the game. The staff was very nice. One man got me a chair and some ice to cool down with. I was still able to see the game even though I was inside, which was cool. We went down to the field level to check out the food options and the frequently mentioned Shake Shack. We got burgers, fries and shakes from there. The food was good, but seriously overpriced. There are a large variety of food options throughout the park, which was nice. The Jackie Robinson Rotunda is pretty cool. We tried to find our brick out on the fanwalk, but the heat got to us so we left. We'll have to look for it next time. Parking was a bit confusing, but we managed to find a good spot close to our gate just outside the stadium lots. Overall I'd say the Mets did a nice job with the stadium.

I visited Citi Field earlier this year and was actually rather disappointed in it. It just has no unique character to it. Even the Jackie Robinson Rotunda is ruined if you try to view if from below and the elevator does not end up dropping you off in the upper part of the rotunda, so we ended up totally missing being able to see it without escalators in the way. I found it very annoying that the team shop did not open until 15 minutes after the gates and also when we got to our seats on the upper area there were no concessions open and they did not open until almost an hour after the gates opened. The main thing, though, is that there is just no atmosphere. There is not really any fun in between inning things other than the stupid subway race on the screen which the Yankees also do. I love baseball and all and visited all 30 ballparks this summer and this one was the most boring.

Interesting. We got to our seats in time for the national anthem, and the concessions were all open already. Maybe they were still working out kinks when you went. What is your favorite stadium? Mine is Fenway, with Wrigley and Camden Yards tied for second.

Well, the concessions were open by the time of the National Anthem, but that was two hours after they opened the park. Maybe, even 2 and a half hours before the park opened. We visited in July and I do not give them in leeway of supposedly working the kinks out because we had already been to Yankee and they had the kinks out and I also went to the Nats new stadium 10 games the first month it was open and by the end of the first home stand they had the kinks worked out. My favorite ballpark is Wrigley Field. I grew up a Cubs fan before becoming a Nats fan. There is just something about having an oldtime scorebord. Sure Fenway kind of has that, but they stink at keeping the out of town scores up-to-date. Fenway does come in second, though, as the old time parks really are the best. Worst in our opinion was the Skydome, but we are kind of biased due to horrible experience related to the handicap accessibility there.
