My Laptop "Died": What happened?

My laptop "died" today. Only yesterday it was alright. When I turned the power on, the blue light lit up nicely but the hard disk light blinked a second and then stopped. The screen went completely blank. Normally I'd be able to see the BIOS, hardware and system information prior to Windows screen. But I didn't see any of that. What happened? How do I fix this?
