Spoiled Veggies!?

I went to the grocery store the other day to pick up some item I needed to make a stew. I don't usually buy veggies from the grocery store unless it's winter and I can't grow any, but I my carrots didn't do well this year. So I went to get some of those baby carrots and as I was grabbing a bag of them I noticed the asparagus right next the bags of carrots. They were packaged in those little styrofoam trays and wrapped in platic wrap, but they look horrid. So I picked one up and looked at them, and no lie, they were turning brown and shrivled and the tips were actually growing this white fluffy mold on them. I thought maybe it was just the one package so I looked at the rest and they were all pretty much in similar condition. I brought one package up to the register with me so I could show the employee there and make him aware the products condition. So they could remove it from the shelf. I just thought it was the good thing to do. When I told him he just stared at me, looked at the asparagus and back to me. He said "So you don't want to buy this?" I told him "No, I just wanted you to see the condition they're in, and all the rest are just like this" he only responded with "Oh" Then called another employee over and told them to place the it back on the shelf "the customer does not want it" Was it wrong of me to bring it to their attention? I almost felt like they thought I was being rude or something?
