A recent article edited by Lucy Maher for Forbes magazine lists America’s 100 Cheapest Places to Live. Read the complete article here: http://www.forbes.com/2009/07/13/cheap-cities-americas-lifestyle-real-estate-cities_land.html People are migrating away from the coasts where housing and the cost of living is “out of site” and moving to other places where they figure they will be able to survive without having to make a fortune in wages to live comfortably. A lot of the present migration is possible due to the technology of the internet, where persons can work from long distances, at home, without having to fight the long hours spent dealing with over crowded highways on the way to the office or place of employment.

It is fascinating that many American people are moving away from the expensive locations to cheaper alternatives. I have been to expensive Hawaii and to pricey cities in California like Los Angeles and San Francisco. I know people from places like that are moving to Carolina and Texas. The traffic in Los Angeles can get really busy so I think somewhere quiet like a town in Washington State would be a relaxing place to live. Working from home must be excellent and keeps some cars off the road. If I lived in the USA I would have to be fairly close to the coastline.

It's strange to me that those in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego continue to stay where they are. I have a 90 year old uncle who lives in Santa Clara. He was offered close to 1 million dollars for his home a few years ago. In my area that house would sell for about $90,000. He wishes now that he had taken the deal and moved to our area. His wife was born and raised in California and for over 60 years he stayed out there because of her, she passed away a few years ago. Now he is stuck and can't sell his home to move here. He visits us at least two times a year, by plane. His kids are all grown and moved away from him.
