I was surprised! Quotations that aren't accurate...

I was trying to find a quote to use in a discussion and failed but did find out the source of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder": "Remember how in that communion only, beholding beauty with the eye of the mind, he will be enabled to bring forth, not images of beauty, but realities (for he has hold not of an image but of a reality), and bringing forth and nourishing true virtue to become the friend of God and be immortal, if mortal man may." -Plato, Symposium" I like the original much more than the dumbed-down shorter version. The original makes you think and have new ideas while the shortened version presents only one idea on the surface. Do you know of any other quotes that are unlike the original, shortened version?
