Tylenol ad

Now, this was pretty strange... The other day, I hear this ad on the radio. I'm not really paying attention, but I did catch the tail end of the ad and it was "Tylenol, a brand you've trusted all your life." WHOA!!! That really floored me! I mean, I was in high school or something when the whole poisoned Tylenol happened. I remember them yanking all the Tylenol off the shelves and not selling it again for a VERY long time.I don't remember how many people died or got sick from it, but it was news quite a while. I think it's pretty early for them to be making this kind of statement because I'm sure I'm not the only one that remembers that whole fiasco. Tylenol is definitely NOT a brand most of us have trusted all our lives. What do you think about this statement?

LOL-yes I remember that fiasco. To be honest I've never taken a Tylenol a day in my life, but not because of what happened. Now I'm glad I never have as it can cause a lot of liver damage. What happened back then though was some sicko poisoned the Tylenol...that's why ever since all over the counter products have seals to let you know if they have been tampered with...and believe me, those seals can be a real pain as you need a blow torch to get them off.

Is that what it takes? A blowtorch? The really silly part is trying to open something with a safety seal because you need it for your crippling arthritis pain. What are these people thinking? Only healthy people open medicine bottles? LOL

Yup, ever since then there were the safety seals - which doesn't help if the tampering is INSIDE the plant they're manufactured at... I do feel bad for the people that have a hard time opening the bottles though - they're hard enough for us "healthy" people!

Tylenol was not the problem...someone pilfering it was. I still trust tylenol as long as I have opened the package and can see that it was sealed. Now if it was peanut butter..where they built in Salmonella...well that is different.

Like I just said to the previous post - as long as the tampering isn't happening in the factory, the seals are great. But if it's something that's happening during the production (or storage like the peanut butter) then safety seals won't help ya. Even though the company Tylenol wasn't responsible, they apparently didn't have very good oversight on the employees or the handling of their product prior to it going to market - from what I remember... And yeah, that whole Tylenol fiasco changed a LOT of the packaging that we now have in place.

I was reading about the incident and it was soon after this incident that places started producing medications in tablets rather than capsules. Less easy to tamper with apparently.

Hi reiny! I guess that Tylenol wishes that we forgot about that incident! And nope neither did I! It was quite a long time before they put it back on the shelves and even longer before people forgot enough about it to dare even think about buying it again! If you wait long enough people do sort of forget I guess! I still don't have any in my house! But, the one good thing that did come out of that horror if you can call it a good thing is that they improved on the tamper resistant seals on all medications and other things since!
