Did you feel that technology making people more lazy nowadays? There is a lot of technology product's been made to make people get easier to do something, but as people get used to do the things with the technology, is this one of the reason why people become more lazy? As for the example, there is people who likes to use an elevator rather than stairs though it is only one floor difference, and not so high, do you ever face this condition when you are in hurry to up floor, but then suddenly there is people stop the elevator just to go one floor? So how's your opinion about this, have you ever face similar situation?

it wasn't supposed to. technology was made in order to simplify people's lives. it is the people themselves who use the technologies who become lazy especially when they use it too much; when they think that they can't live without it. some technologies are practically things that we don't need but people use it because they have become accustomed to it being used. that's the price of modernization i guess. i don't know if it's just me but sometimes i realize that the more a technology is convenient, the more energy is needed for it to work.

Personally I feel that Technology is needed for many things and many reasons even in the case of Elevator over stairs for sure. Yes, there are many who might get lazy when offered both choices, but in time it could be quicker to use the shorter way for sure. What about using the Computer to send Email instead of writing a personal letter? It could be mentioned the same way here as well.

That's is the purposes of technology being developed, but could you imagine that one day, if scientists develop a technology that offer people they didn't have to walk by foot anymore?

Yes, I think technology is making people lazier indeed…just see how we are dependent on cars for even short distances! We all know everything about global warming and depletion of natural resources yet how many of us are willing to walk that extra mile or climb that flight of stairs instead of using the lift! Similarly, previously we had to go to the post office to buy and post all our mails but now its just sitting at the computer and surfing the net the whole day. And then there are so many gadgets which have reduced our household chores so that we might better use our time to pursue other interests but adversely it has made us lazier too. We are now too dependent on our brain work rather than physical work.

hi no I dont think technology makes people lazy unless they were lazy to begin with.most technology makes more work for more people and teaches more people to be creative we would not want to go back to the horse and buggy or wash clothes by hand or cook over a campfire no so lets not give technology a bad name at all.

I am agree with your examples, in fact technology is not bad at all, but our habit makes it look bad ... what makes brain work, physical must do the same ...

i am an engineer and i think technology makes me lazy for most of time, but not in my work. i have to work very hard everyday just to study and develop some kind of technology and i live on technology. For people in other field, i think this is true, when i watch TV at home, i can just lay there and using remote controller to chose whatever i want to watch. i can put food into microwave oven and i can eat it within two minutes. i think Technology brings us plenty of conevience, we are enjoying it, not becoming lazy on it.

Maybe there is a thin line between too much of enjoying and becoming lazy as an engineering, did your work place has more labour rather than machines?

Lazy - not exactly. Convenient - yeah, thats the one. And that is the main reason of advancing technology further and further. To make our lives more simple and enjoyable. To spend less time working and more time... well.. living. And elevators are there to serve everyone, including those, who need it for one floor.

That's the reason, but still ... we must think about other needs also

Yes technology does make people lazy if we're too reliant on it. It's just human nature. We can't stop the person from taking the escalator even when he's just going up one floor, I think we're so used to it that it is part of our daily lives. But I do use the stairs when I leave the apartment because the escalator is not available now. It is undergoing an upgrading which takes several months. So for me I can use the escalator to go up to my apartment but will use the stairs to go out from it.

Yep, you are right, only ourselves who can do it, by the way, several months is pretty long, but takes a positive thinking, you are healthy

technologies is mainly here not out of laziness but because of the rapid changing times such as increased population growth and overwhelmed businesses. i think its a good thing mostly as it can simplify things more.

Technologies is made to make life simple is true, but do you think with rapid population growth and business, technology still an advantages, what about labour which being replaced by a robot?did it helps people, considering with the rapid population growth?

Hey maxi! I still don't mind walking one flight of steps and I have a bad knee and ankle! When I go to see my doctor he is on the second floor and even though it is hard for me to walk the two sets of steps I usually do! Unless I am in alot of pain that day I don't like to take the elevator! Even though it is a medical building and it is ok there! I do think that in some cases technolology has made us a bit lazier. I have to write out a check to my landlord and walk it over to the management office! I hate having to write out a check! That and my electric bill are the only two bills I still write! And I could pay my electric bill on line too if I want!

Hi Opal! Wow, amazing, even in pain you can do it , so don't think technology is made to make people more lazy, it is more to help people to make it easier and simple, like the things you did ... Oh ya i think if you keeps walking without technology it's somekind of exercises to your foot, so it is more strong rather than using technology when walk I think using less technology make our body more healthy do you think?

yes, i've started to feel that way since the ATM emerges and because with technology people have to do less work to accomplish more stuff. It makes them lazy because they let it do all the work for them. they sit at their computers, use automatic and voice dial on phones and remotes for T.V., instead of farming, manual dialing, walking to T.V., etc. etc. It has changed life to the point where children don't play outside and exercise anymore but rather, sit in front of the game boy, playstation, etc., etc. and get fat - not to mention all the t.v. commercials that promote bad foods to eat.

Technology has made things and life a lot easier. Is that a bad thing? Isn't it easier to use the microwave than to heat the stove up and take longer. Isn't it easier to have your child watch a educational cartoon show while you are cleaning the house? Isn't it easier for our elders not have to climb those stairs or shifft those gears in their cars? To me technolgoly has done alot of good for people and I appreciate the inventors who have do so. Yes their is situations that we all abuse the technology but that is with anything that we have in our lives. Have a good day and a better one tomorrow.

For one side it is good, but the other side is bad, i think it depends on how people use it anyway, but it seems too much people becomes very dependent with it .. Have a nice day also

Technology can definatley make some people lazy. People do rather take the elevator or exculator instead of the stairs. I think these things are made to make life easy I do agree because it helps us get where we are going with ease. Can you imagine going up many flight of stair with things in your hand to get to the 10th floor. I agree it is needed. My problem is when we abuse it and I really don't like that the children today are not getting enough exercise because of technology.Happy lotting.

Yea I also think so. Technology makes us more lazy but there are still old people who want to work manually like my late aunt and our neighbors. But most of our youngsters today are very dependent on our new technology that makes life easier.

It's too easy until they go lazy ... but most of the old people is a little bit lack using nowadays technology ... they much more comfort using the manual way

i would like to believe that technology can make people spend time and do stuff more efficiently, not lazy. although, even if the technology's purpose is to aid... some people become highly dependent on it to a certain point (almost close to laziness). and yes, i have come across people using elevators for just a floor away. many establishments that i see now put on signages that ask people to use the stairs if they're coming up or going down 1-2 floors. the signage also highlights the health benefits of walking or doing the stairs for people's heart and lungs. i think i am one of those guilty ones of being a bit lazy when it comes to using mobile phones. since i'm on an unlimited plan, i can call and text people under the same network without excess charges. when i'm at home and resting for example in my bedroom in the second floor of the house and suddenly i need to ask something from someone downstairs from the garden bar... instead of going down myself, i'll just use my mobile phone instead.

Yep, it makes a thin line between lazy and dependent of the technology, but what you did is a little bit different with the case, because you didn't bother another peoples

I think the the uses of technology is so that people have easier way to get things done (hence people become more lazy) My mother no longer writes her checks and mail them out because she can take car of her bills online. I think it's great that people could use technology and benefit from it but people shouldn't take the shortcut to everything.
• Indonesia
25 Aug 09
that is an advantages of the technology, it's not lazy i think, your mom is doing ok, what they are doing is different, it's just like .. go to some place by a bicycle, but you don't want to walk to get the bike

technology is not only making people lazy but it is also making people lose their jobs, i was watching the other time how some robots were being operated to make tea and food for guests, as technology is advancing so are the need for manpower decreasing and i hope something could be done about this soonest

I think that technology made our lives easy n sophisticated but it's upto us to make it a curse or boon for ourselves....Technological advancements have paved the way to mental exercise rather than physical labour. But we can neutral this effect by making our daily lives more disciplined..for eg. we can do different types of exercises at our homes only using different machines...plus we can consult any yoga trainer across the globe and can sustain our stamina and strength and the list is endless...these are the merits of technology only...

Yes actually. But it is upon your necessity. If your work is done you don't need to hanging there with those and if you know that you have to do some kind of a tiring work then you must do it.Until you understand that you will continue your old habits.
