Ithink writers are not given any importance when compared to other jobs.Especially freelancer writer are not paid for the effort they take to write. What are your comments?

I am a writer myself... have been writing for different sites for the past years, and some personal materials too... I agree with you on that... at oDesk, we are allowed to set our own rates, but other writers lower their rates too much when they bid for a job and they easily win the job it puts many of us in a difficult situation because lowering our rates would give the impression that we are inexperienced. there are other sites I was planning to work for but when i see the rates ($1 for 500-1000 words, i feel so ripped off from my talent...)

Yes i the same problem here bidding sites are like that and if we take work individual it end up as scam site. After completing our work we submit them and with out any reason they say some cause and reject your work. I have worked as full time writer where you are screwed day and night without any mercy for very low pay. So where ever you go the same situation.

I think you are right about internet writers. The problem is, there are so many of us. Huge field of competition. Off line, writers command much more respect, but the field is hard to break into. I have been writing online for only about a year. I have had good luck with a market called Helium. Your articles are promoted online and you get page views, which are pennies - but they add up over time and never go away. These you can learn to promote yourself for better page views. They also have a marketplace you can write for. These articles are requested by publishers for a specified number of days, and if they choose yours you make $20 to $200 for it. I've had pretty good luck with them. Of course, the better and more you write, the more you make.

Friend you are absolutely right the field is competative. I too find some sites like bukisa.com where as said by you the payments are made on different unquie page views. But most of these sites do not help you in promoting your article and very rarely you will get a page view. It completely depends on your luck and after writing a article with so much hard work you will noot get anything in return.

That's why I like Helium, they actually do promote for you. I make money on almost every article I have written every month. Not a lot, but it adds up. And the Marketplace articles are paid when the peublisher buys them.

In my view you are right and I feel very disappointing the way freelancers are paid. Seen many sites and they payouts are horrible. Imagine for suppose you write many articles to particular site to get eligible for minimum payout of that site and when it turns into a scam site. What to do then all the time wasted writing articles for such site becomes waste. So, it is very important that one should first select the right site before writing but still I feel very less is paid for freelance writers by many sites.. I do not know exact the reason but only the people who give the job can give good answer..

May be freelance industry is like that only. But even if you opt for fulltimme work there the same situation. You have to work day and night and when coming to payment they give you the lowest salary in the market.

I have to admit I am right on board with all of you who have responded. We as writers are underpaid, but, think of it this way, in many aspects we may not get paid as we should, but we do have an easier time finding work that most. Especially while the economy is still so weird. Yes, there are sites out there that we, not knowingly, end up writing for that are simply out to steal money from people, but, we in the end do get paid for our efforts even if it is not for very much. Maybe if we pull our efforts together we can all benefit from the experiences we have had with the world wide web and how our writing is affected. Maybe we can help begin to make a difference. For example, starting right here with Mylot. You may laugh, but I tend to use this site to practice my writing skills. I try to make sure that my sentence structure is correct and that many people are able to follow what is written. It helps me achieve other goals with my writing, etc. There are a lot of great sites that are available across the web, that can get you connected with the right companies. One such site that women can turn to for help is WOW! Women on Writing. You can find information not only from writers, but publishers, editors, etc. Many times, you will find out the ins and outs of the publishing world and possibly find steady work. Another great site to check out that is designed for everyone is Funds 4 Writers. I hope by sharing a few things with each of you, it will help you to look on the brighter side of your writing experiences. Happy Writing Everyone!

yes, very true, when they have to sellect a writer they would hold many kinds of tests to check the writing skiils. sometimes all candidates are rejected in the look out for an accomplished writer. but when it comes to paying a writer they feel that it is not a difficult task and thus people are paid lowly. writing is a skill which one develops after years of dedication and it must be treaated well.

Look around. The world is filled with writers. It is all in the message, even though it may be only a symbol. Is your favorite shirt one with a message? Your coffee cup? The boring form you must fill out to change your address at the post office? They all begin with a writer's creation. Each writer must leave the reader or listener with an image. Priceless? Perhaps. Are we streaming nonsense or delivering an important or entertaining message? That is what determines the worth.
