Do you ever translate languages on your computer or laptop?

Hello mylot friends, let me say that last night someone had sent me a message at another website. Their message was written in Spanish. Friends I'm just gonna be honest here. My spanish speaking skills are so small that any Mommasita would be laughing her salsa dancing behind off if she heard me speak it, lols. Anyways I won't allow this to stop me because I happen to think the language is such a beautiful one to learn. Only I don't have time to try to learn it right this momento
. Anyhow, a spanish speaking guy had sent me a message in spanish. Then my hubby came and helped me to translate his message from Spanish to english. By using Microsoft word translator. Friends let me tell you. That tool is beginning to open up a whole new world for me. So tell me if you've been using it and how it has opened up plesant opportunities for you. After seeing the words appear from spanish into English, I was like, Oooh- la- la
Luckily the guy only asked if he could be my friend. Oh he also said that he thought that I was very pretty. I thought that was such a nice complimente, hee hee hee...I'm still learning you guys and I've got a ways to go. But I still enjoy learning it very much, so tell me about your experience with using that translating tool if you have any. Or if you have a funny story that you'd like to share concerning speaking another language I would love to hear about it. Now run with this ball you guys!...Let's take it away!!!!

I've done some translation online. You have to be really careful with it since translators tend to translate things literally and take the first dictionary definition of a word, when the writer could have intended another meaning. Also, translators don't handle slang and dialect and abbreviations well.
One thing that will tell you if your translation was decent is if you translate something and then translate it back. If you get pretty much the same as the original, there's a better bet that it's a decent translation.
I don't have a funny story about online translation, but I do have one for a conversation. My sister-in-law was talking to her German cousins and trying to explain about an auto accident. She used the word "gebumst". They started giggling uncontrollably. Turns out that doesn't mean "bump", it's a form of the verb "bumsen" which is the "F" word in German.

Oh wow, I guess that is what you'd call a close call. Thanks for all the other info. Will have to try to keep all of that in mind. Sorry my message is so short this evening, I'm just a wee bit tired, so I need to be going on to bed. I will get back with you another time. Take care my friend and have a wonderful evening.
