Ok, you are going to live on a deserted island where the only source of food is the obvious, fish, coconuts, berries, etc. You are allowed to bring just one spice with you. What would that spice be and why? Be specific.

I have a spice that I like to use with almost everything that is Tastefully Simple Seasoned Salt. I would have to bring that one with me because it makes all meat taste better. It adds to the natural flavor of the meat and just makes me really like the taste of gamey types of food better. Plus, your body needs a certain amount of salt that wouldn't be found in eating all of the natural types of food, so it would also help you to maintain your electrolytes.

I am so surprised that so many people say salt..I go to cooking school a few nights a week and we were asked this question there..Almost nobody said salt there but then they have the advantage of being taught spices and the anwsers were quite interesting..Here on Mylot, salt seems to be the peoples choice!! I write a blog about cooking and food and am going to do a post dedicated to spices..I haven't published my blog yet as I am still writing and storing or I'd I refer you there..soon however..Thanks for responding

First of all that would be rather nice right now. I could use a vacation even if it meant roughing it for a few days.
I would bring the spice...Mrs.Dash Garlic an Herb flavor. I use it now on lots of different meat to give it a different flavor. Im sure it would enhance the fish taste and not to mention that it would be salt free. Are you sending me to the desserted island? Im ready to go...@sulsisels (1685)

Hi sulsisels, well there would be no need to bring salt as that can be obtained from the sea and I never use seasoned salts anyway, just sea salt. Generally I use lots of fresh herbs but you ask for a spice so I'd go with chilli as it goes so well with most things and with a bit of natural lime juice from a handy tree it would be a good addition to fish and would probably work well with berries too. I'd soom be fed up of the cocunuts though apart from cooking the fish sometimes in the milk.
