Life really isn't fair...

August 19, 2009 5:18pm CST
What a strange day I had today! I came out of the local supermarket and saw this gentleman waiting for a bus. It was a bit windy so a £10 flew out of his pocket. He raced to pick it up and the note fell on a community police officer's leg. The officer gave him back the £10 note and told him that he was littering so he'd have to pay the fine of £75!!! W TF?? Well this didn't go down too well with the dude and he started cursing and swearing at the copper and yet the copper still wrote it down and gave him the $75 ticket fine for littering. The other people around there, including myself, had a go at the officer as that truly wasn't bloody fair. I mean he didn't purposely throw the $10 and yet he has to pay for nature's fault Later on as I chatted with the guy I discovered that he really had the worst of all days. His wife has left him with his two kids and he is to be made redundant at the end of the week. Plus his brother had just died two days earlier and his mum is in hospital as she had a stroke following his brother's death. Worse off he is in over £68,000 pounds in debt, his house is on the verge of being re-possessed. I felt so bad when he told me this and from the few moments I talked with him he seemed like a decent bloke who would never harm a fly.. So another classic story of life bitting you in the butt.. Have you ever had one of them days when everything turns against you at the same time?

What a Jobsworth. He should definitely appeal the fine - because that CPO was SERIOUSLY out of order. I do hope he took the little prix number!

OMG that is awful, poor guy.I dont know about your justice system, but can he contest it? I would have gotten witness names and fought it. I would also complain to the department. Who in the world would litter with money? Thats just plain stupid!

yes we can of course.. I've encouraged him to go over and launch a complaint

Yes I have definitely had days like that, probably not as harsh as that poor guy, but still pretty bad. That guy could easily appeal that case, but he probably won't think it's worth the trouble with all the other stuff going on.

Man, that poor guy was having a bad MONTH, forget about the day! I can't believe the cop gave him a ticket for dropping money. That's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard! Hopefully the guy can go to court and beat the ticket. Sometimes, even though we should fight the ticket, we give in and just pay it because it's easier that way. Hopefully this man's days start to get better, and soon!

If I were on his foot, I would definitely wouldn't know what to do actually. Having that kind of life would really make me wish there would be a miracle that would save me from all of it. I hope not all cops are like that at your country. That would be extremely over use of their power! really unfair.. I never really had that BIG downs in my life and im thankful for that.

Hello, Jelly. That is so typical of the British Police State we have now. Common sense is out the window - as if anyone would throw away a £10 note, and surely 'littering' is deliberately throwing away something unwanted and/or useless? The copper should be sacked, and the guy should call in all the newspapers. I thought I was having a lousy time, as I've spent the last 2 days in bed with some sort of virus, but that poor fellow's got the weight of the world on his shoulders, hasn't he? I often wonder where all the coppers disappear to when there's a major incident. I thought they were all out persecuting motorists, but now I know some of them are persecuting pedestrians as well, I suppose that makes it fair.

I know it's like a crime to be a pedestrian these days.. how absurd.. I used to feel safe when I saw the old bill but nowadays am even more frightened with them now as I never know if they'll fine me for just standing in the streets..

Cops are just people and with that being said some people are just @ssholes. that cop may have been just an @ss or a little too power hungry or having a bad day himself in my opinion. With that being said, yes troubles seem to come in tens for me. One thing is always followed by another. It's horrible.

Geez, where does it say in the cop's job description that he is required to act like an a**. You know, sometimes I think some people just KNOW when you're down and have an impulse to kick you. What a shame.

Oh, that's really terrible! I felt so sad about the guy. But I do believe that everything's happens for a reason. He should never ever give up. All things shall pass away. The best and worst days of our life will pass away. Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great day!

Life unfortunately has the habit of "It doesn't rain, it pours", particularly with the bad things. The poor, poor, poor gentleman. Getting run over by a ten ton truck would have been merciful! By the way, the bobby is wrong all the way. Littering is throwing waste intentionally. Here it was unintentional and there was an immediate attempt to retrieve it, which was successful. I hope the gentleman appeals and wins damages to pay his way through the debt and other problems. That would be justice served.

OMG THAT REALLY SUCKS!!!! i feel so sosrry for that guy. Well I cant think of anything at the moment. Wait yes. Ok two years ago I woke up thinking "life is great! what could go wrong" Well that morning i woke up, my sister dropped my cellphone in the toilet, AND i got the blame for it! My boyfriend broke up with me that very same morning. And to make matters worse we had to sit together on the bus. Oh and did I mention that my teacher had lost my project so he gave me a big fat F!

Hey, Yea that is truly a terrible life that the person has had. Man, I couldn't imagine to live like that. That is absolutely terrible, especially the fine that the policeman gave, it is stupidity. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I felt bad for him sincerely. Life isn't fair all the time, and we knew the truth. While we are still alive, we are still trying to make the best out of it. Oh well, keep on going, and make yourself better. You can beat yourself up. Get your head up high.

I can not believe the story. Is it true? I checked your profile and knew it happened in the UK.I don’t think British people can accept the unfair. I have not experienced too unfair things recently, but my husband seemed not lucky. Within two days he got a parking warning it cost £35 and an over speed driving letter not know the cost yet. He has driven for many years. It’s the first time he got punishment. And he just a little over speeded. The road was 30 he had 33. By the way he just parked his car in a area less 5minutes then got punishment. It’s a nightmare to him. He’s not lucky. I kindly think it’s not fair too.

It sounds impossible. How could the man pay for the fine. He didn't do anything wrong. This is really unfair. The man really had a bad luck. When talking about fair. Things in the world are all unfair. Big fish eat little fish, stronger can live, things are unfair to everyone. But we all have hands, this is fair. The attitude we have decide what we live. Unfair things are too much. But as a chinese saying, losing horses, how could you know it's bad or good. When meeting things unfair, just keep active attitude. Doing so, unfair can change to good thing. Losing one thing getting new thing. Older gone, newer come. So just keep your attitude. This is just my view. Having a good day and happy mylot.

Well, it's really hard to face such kind of terrible situation. Life is not fair, of course, and always. As to me, for years, my father has suffered from the gallstones that is a special kind and cannot remove by an operation. And this summer my mother got a tumor this summer. I'm their only daughter, and I think the following several years couldn't be easy for three of us. Anyway, I just hope everyone can get though the difficult positions.
