You are going on a wilderness survival trip to experience living off the land. The only thing you are allowed to bring with you is one spice. What spice would you bring and why?

Yes.Salt.No matter how we do.As long as there is something to eat.The lack of salt can not be the best. Salt is an indispensable everyday life, one food per person per day 6 to 10 grams of salt in order to maintain the normal activities of the human heart to maintain normal osmotic pressure and acid-base balance in the body, salt is salty at the same time the carrier.Oh we can not lack of salt.

You are so right but I still think I would have to choose garlic..Did you know that garlic can be roasted and even used in sweet dishes. I didn't..always thought it was strictly a savory spice..Oh what you learn when you are researchng for a blog..Thanks for the post

Well I was going to say garlic powder, but after seeing the other two responses I think I'm going to amend that to be garlic salt. Garlic makes everything better, but salt is important too. If I were allowed to take a spice container and fill it with anything though I would probably do salt, pepper, garlic powder and lemon zest and then shake it up some to mix everything around.

Very clever answer!! I never thought of the mixed container..very good.. I love garlic too and use it in almost everything I cook..(My hands have a permanent garlic scent!!) I'm writing a blog and am compiling all kinds of research I've done about cooking around the world..Thanks for the post..

salt. i guess we can catch birds or fish and cook it with salt. if salt is not included or there is salt already i guess i will bring pepper. for me this two are the most important spice. add taste to everything we cook. i dont know how to cook but my wife is a good cook and i see her using salt and pepper more often than other spice. welcome to the wonderful world of mylot

Hi 7th and thanks for responding..I am surprised to see that so many say salt..but then again its not so surprising..I go to cooking school a few nights per week, not because I want to be a chef as I'm a little too old to start that now. I am a pretty good home cook and just want to improve my skill..I even write a blog about food and cooking. Anyway, in school we were asked this question and the answers were quite different..Almost nobody said salt!! Of course they have the advantage of knowing spices..I'm going to do a post on my blog about spices and hope it helps the home cook out..I love that you said pepper however..my favorite!
