I think my calendar messed it up... so now i am so confused... I thought August 31 is Philippine National Heroes Day... but when i made some research... it's suppose to be the 4th Monday of August... and that falls on August 24... so now... if that is the case... we really have a long Holiday... from today... Friday, August 21... till Monday August 24...
Am i correct in this... or do i have to go to work on Monday... eversince i had my current job... i am so not up to date when it comes to these None working holidays...
Please help me out...

Actually the original date of National heroes day is August 25, but when I read the news last January 2009 about the listing of national holidays this year, I was surprised to know that the national heroes day is set on August 31, Monday instead of August 24 which is the nearest Monday of the said holiday.I don't know if MalacaƱang Palace got a mistake or what but it is final that the holiday is set on August 31. In other words we have work on the 24th of August.

This must be the reason for all the confusion... eversince GMA did this long vacation thingy... holidays has become like a puzzle for Filipinos to solve... gone are the days when we just have to look at the calendar to see when we are not suppose to go to school or work...
Thanks for the response...

Yes, actually I am not agree with the changing of the dates of our national holidays, it's so useless because there's no clear reason why it was changed. It is really confusing, we don't know anymore what is the true date of our holidays, it sets as a bad example to children who have no idea why it changes. They may believe it was the date of the true holiday.

hello aseretdd, the national heroes day is supposed to be celebrated every last sunday in the month of august which this year is august 30. however since GMA change the trend of the holidays this year it falls on august 31, the nearest monday. so you have to go to work on monday august 24...

hehe what seems to be the problem? just sort out your calendar well.. aug 31 is the holiday... it was moved to that day since aug 30, the national heroes day fell on a sunday...
besides, i think your company will be announcing prior to the holiday right? so worry no more.

Well, coming from a Catholic country... Holy Friday and Easter are two holidays that calendars never go wrong with... it just this new holiday economics thingy that our president adopted from the US... can still be confusing for us Filipinos...
Thanks for the response...

Looks like the "Holiday of Economics" confused us and made us forget some details. National Heroes Day was declared in 1931 through Act No. 3827 and it is to be celebrated every last Sunday of August. Republic Act 9492 promulgated in 2002 shifted the celebration every last Sunday to every last Monday of August. It is a regular holiday, thus, no work.

I like the no work part... but i must agree that the "Holiday Economics" is quite confusing... i guess it would take more years for us to get used to it... i got the 4th monday of August idea from wikipedia.org... so i think they need to change that wrong information...
Thanks for the response...

There is a holiday economics that Presidnet Gloria Arroyo implemented and the result is August 31, a monday will be the heroes day and you will have to go to work on monday. The BPO sector who works even on holidays benefit from most of this holidays, because they work and get paid a premium for it.

I really this Holiday Economics thingy that President GMA implemented... but as long as Independence day remains July 12... then i won't ever complain... long holidays are a great way to relieve workers or job related stress...
Thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy every minute of your stay here...

I do not think it is Aug 24, I have read that it is on Aug. 30 that we celebrate National Heroes Day. But, since that day is a Sunday then the holiday is declared on Aug 31st which is a Monday. I never heard that National Heroes day is held every 4th Monday of August. I learned of this holiday as August 30 already.

I read about the 4th Monday in wikipedia.org... so i guess whoever wrote that one got it all wrong... i hope someone would correct that entry...
The Philippines, on this day, commemorates the celebration of the national heroes. National Heroes day falls every last Monday of August. It is a regular holiday in the Philippines remembering the Cry of Pugad Lawin by Filipino Revolutionary forces called the Katipunan led by its leader (Supremo) Andres Bonifacio. It is now observed every 4th Monday of August.

rfl, we unfortunately don't have anything like that, in fact we used to have two holidays in February, which was already a blissfully short month, but then they combined them into a single holiday called "Presidents Day" --bummer. Enjoy your long weekend and if someone wants to tell us who their favorite Philippine Hero is that might be cool, too!
