What a Mess!!

Everyone feels different about cleaning and I don't mind the usual up-keep. But when it becomes a total mess, I can get over-whelmed and I don't know where to start. Ok, the reason I bring cleaning up. Our land lord owns a trailer park as well as some other hoses he rents out. When one of his tenants moves out he usually comes and asks me if I'll help him by cleaning the place up. I don't mind, he's a nice guy and we can use the extra money. This particular trailer is the smallest in the park, a one bed room. So I thought this would be an quick and easy clean up. Well I went over to the park to see what needed to be done and what I had to bring with me. I figured the usual, a vacuum, cleaning products for the windows, bathroom, and kitchen. When I walked in, the first thing that hit me was the strong, awful smell and the largest cloud of flies I have ever seen. I say cloud because that's what it was like they were so many just flying in a mass. It turns out the young man was very messy. The worst of it was he had been living with 6 cats that he wasn't supposed to have. So there was the smell, cat urine. A pile of litter and cat waste in a pile in the bedroom, as he must have emptied the litter box so he could pack it. Litter everywhere on the bathroom floor and all rugs were soaked. I have to wait while they take the rugs. I don't think they could ever come clean anyway, and that smell must be stuck in them. I'm bringing the extra long rubber gloves, a mask, and a few cans of lysol. What a mess! My land lord said he'd only been there about 2 weeks. I don't keep my house organized, as I'm always working on some project, or some craft. So I have clutter, but I'll never say my house is a mess again. What about you what's the worst mess you've ever had to clean up?

WOW I feel for the land lord. It always surprises me to see how unconsidered some people can be. Then again look at the positive side if there is a big mess you quickly see progress. I hope by now you are done cleaning. Plus you said your landlord told you the person lived there for only 2 weeks. WOW

I finished it up as much as I could, the smell was lingereing, but my land lord gave me something called odor ban that he wanted me to use, generously on the wood floors before the new carpet went down. He later came back with another can of germ killer that was very strong scented, he told me to empty the can (use it all) and I did but I had to do it through the place backing up as it was so strong it took my breath away. He's supposed to be putting the carpets down as he has a tentant interested in renting it. Land lord said that I did a good job as it looked good but I'm not sure how it smelled after I sprayed and went home. Some people are just more messy then others, I couldn't allow my house to become, what I call filthy, like that. It's unhygenic.

It sounds like they were mad at their land lord, and did this out of anger. I don't understand the things people do sometimes. I guess we would have to ask them. LoL.

I was cleaning out a rental home once it wasn't as bad as yours. The tenant emptied the ashtray into the a/c vents. I couldn't understand why the tenant would do that because all it did was make the place smell more and the dust/ash was blown back out.

The worst mess I had to clean up was my bird cage. It's not that bad if I remember to clean it up every week but if I don't for an entire month, it smells bad and is a total mess. My uncle has a cat and I've helped him clean his cat litter as well. Cat litter is also a pain to clean up.

Hi Animegirl, thanks for sharing. I've only ever had zebra finch and they are so small it wasn't that bad for me. My mother was raising some pharoah quail and they were kind of smelly. Yes cat litter can be bad, the longer you leave it the worse it gets. I just got back in from the trailer I'm cleaning, they took all the carpets in every room out. They were so badly soaked in cat urine, but even though they took the carpets out the place still has a very strong smell. Almost makes you choke. I'll just have to do what I can to get rid of the smell, and leave all the windows open to air it out. :D Hope your having a great day!
