This photo shows a first for me.
I had never tried growing watermelons in my garden. We bought a few plants at a decent price but it was late in the season. Now I am hoping they get to be a decent size before the frost comes. What was the last thing you tried growing that you never had in the past? Was it a sucess?
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I love watermelon, but I've never tried to grow them before. I used to have mixed success with passionfruit and sometimes ended up with some beauties! Unfortunately though, more times than not I ended up with a rambling growth that upset my neighbours because it would grow over the fence and into their yard.
It's been such a long time since I've had a garden, but when I get back to Australia, I'd like to try and grow herbs mainly and maybe some chillies and berries!
Good luck with your watermelon's Grandpa Bob!

Thanks. The first photo was taken the past weekend.
Just checked on them and here is a new photo.
They sure grew after the storms we had this week.

Hmmm the last thing I grew that I never tried before was pumpkins. That was about 9 years ago. They did quite well. They were started from seed. Love the teeny melon. It is adorable. I hope it does get large enough to enjoy.

Hi Grandpa Bob..
Goodluck with the watermelons. And the photo you uploaded was cute.
3 years ago, my cousin and planted papaya seeds. But the outcome wasn't beautiful. The tree grew ok but the fruits didn't. It will just produce two to three papaya that were smaller with the photo you uploaded. And they will just fall off.
We had luck with one fruit that was slightly larger and used it for Chicken Tinola. It's a Filipino recipe. It's a dish made from chicken, unripe papaya, and sili leaves.
After that one fruit, the tree started to die.
