for border collies to bark at everything? I love my dogs, I really do, but they bark at everything and anything half the time and always howl at the passing train.

Dogs bark, its there way of saying "Hello! There is a dog in this house, tell your four legged friends!" I guess you could correct them when they do it, after a while it might be a little quieter in the house.

like the other poster said, these are working dogs they need work or some distraction of some sort they need to release the energy stored up.what i do with my workingline german shep is i teach obedience and some agility.that way he is occupied..just remember that a tired dog is a happy dog!

Yeah, and it's their way of bawling you out too. Like one of mine yesterday was barking at me because I came home late from work....which meant they got fed much later...messed up their routine. I noticed collies are all about routines. Thanks for the response.

I dont think it is just your dogs. My mom's dogs bark at everything, anything, and nothing. a leaf could fall to the ground and they will bark and it is so annoying. When my mom leaves they howl when I am trying to sleep after working midnights.

Yep yep. Mine right now are quite active at night barking because I live in a rural area and it is entering into hunting season. I can hear some hunters in the distance with their dogs and they get my dogs riled up at night....I'vce been tossing and turning lately....ugh.

This bred is made for working, you need to find something to keep them ocupied. teach then to play catch or run obstical courses so that they use up all of the extra energy they have otherwise they will find even more anoying ways to use that energy than barking.

Yeah I agree they are worker dogs. I get a kick out of watching them barrel race, of course I never taught them this and they just do it with each other. They cannot quite grasp the whole concept of catch and return, but I work with them when I can. They are smart ones though like I know when someone has been on my property by the way they bark. Thanks for the response.
