Life is valuable so why is abortion allowed?

In my home country abortion is legal up to 24 weeks pregnancy. It is available later than that if the mother's life is in danger or if born the baby would be seriously disabled. I think of aborted babies as the missing people of the world. In some countries abortion is illegal which I think is excellent. Why do you think abortion is allowed in my home country or in some other countries? What do you think about abortion?

maximax8, Life being valuable is also multifaceted. Although, abortion can be deemed cruel to many, however, I do not think the world can really do without it. Even when it is done due to social reasons, yet this life being multifaceted can find justification for those doing so. Why? There are just some people who cannot get past themselves or be assured with themselves that there will not be problems in the future for their child who will be born out of wedlock, unwanted pregnancy and whatever seemingly selfish reasons. Who can assure that the baby born will not suffer or free from the same undesirable fate, unloving adoptive parents, child cruelty, terminal illnesses, neglect or their own incapacity? To the people who are not directly involved (us), we just cannot really tell what is really going on in theses people's minds and what the future holds for these people and their unborn. Yet, you and I know that without abortion they may just not be able to get past their own mistakes and/or themselves. Life is just complicated sometimes and abortion may just be a needful simplification for them.

To the people who are not directly involved (us), we just cannot really tell what is really going on in theses people's minds That is so true...I have had and still do at times, ppl natter at me and say some downright horrible things to me because i had to have an abortion unexpectedly....I wont get into why again on here but it wasnt without reason...to those ppl (the ones that like to natter at me) I tell them simply that until they are EXACTLY in the same position myself, my husband and my two children were in and feel, see, experience etc EXACTLY as I and we did then they not only wont understand but also dont have a leg to stand on with me..... Until a person is IN that position where an abortion is needed one really can't say whether or not its right or wrong etc...I USE TO be AGAINST abortion when I was younger....gradually over time it changed to my being on the fence...then came a situation when it was necessary....I am now Pro Choice

Hi Raven Lady. I know that you had an abortion because you thought it was the best idea for you at that time in your life. I was offered an abortion when I was 36 weeks pregnant with my disabled son. There aren't many spina bifida babies born because it can be found out at a 16 week blood test or a 20 week ultrasound. Ladies expecting a baby with spina bifida are asked if they want to have an abortion. I know one lady was told having her baby would ruin her marriage and her baby would be a monster.

Ravenladyj, I can understand your situation and as I have mentioned this practice just cannot be absent or abolished totally in today's complex world. People just have their own perception of things and at the end of the day the decision will still lie upon the mother of the unborn child. I was asked once in a group discussion, where one of the girls in the group actually set a poser on the difference taking of a life through abortion and a baby dying in the hands of his/her adopted parents. She chose abortion with a sole reason that she will grieve better with her own decision than one where she decides to let others do the termination. So, as you can see, there will be individuals who will not be comfortable letting their born child for others to adopt and loose their baby at the end of the day. The world and its people today are just beyond us, so as a friend, counselor or soul mate, we just have to understand and respect their plight and decision.

abortion is a kind of sin that u perform.in other countries this has become frequent process .child is a gift of god and you are destroying the beautiful gods gift in any way because of your silly mistakes.i think abortion should be banned in every country and any person performing this act should be charged and punished.it is highly illegal process

I think you know how I feel about abortion. But the last time I expressed my opinion, boy did I get attacked for it! So I'll just say it again, because I'm not afraid to express my opinion (I just hate people "verbally" tearing into me.), I am against abortion. You know what amazes me? The case that caused America to allow abortion, Roe v. Wade...The woman in question who was fighting for abortion, now is totally against it and is a pro life advocate.

I don't know her first name, I'm sorry. Maybe just typing in Roe v. Wade would do it, but I'm not sure. I think my mom might know it. She's the one who first showed me the magazine article from the woman who is now against abortion. After that I saw her on TV, but that was a few years ago. I see my mom tomorrow. If she can remember what it is, I'll post it.

I looked her name up. Jane Roe was an alias for the court case. Her real name was Norma L. McCorvey. At first she claimed she was raped, and as a result was pregnant. She later admitted she had lied because she thought that would get the court to rule in her favor. Check out www.leaderu.com/norma/

Hi there my friend Ambie Pam. I like to find out about other people's opinions. I am so sorry to hear that you got verbally attacked for expressing your opinion on abortion. It is fascinating to find out that the lady that was once fighting for abortion is now pro-life. I must find out more about Roe v. Wade. Abortion is a touchy subject and people are usually very for or against it.

Hi everybody, I haven't been around for some time and now I have to catch up with you. I live in a country where is abortion allowed. In my opinion, it should be. I have seen many families with 13 to 18 kids. Usually they live in a small places, mostly only one room. They have no jobs and they expect other people and Community to look after them. Now I would like to believe they have kids because they love them, but I can't. Why to have so many kids if you can't give them at least proper meal daily, let alone other things they need? I have three kids of my own and six grandchildren. If I were in better position, I mean had higher income, I would have much more. I don't know did I express myself right, but I'm sure you know what I mean. Everybody should be in position to choose what they want.

Hi Verkica. I think it must be difficult for a family with more than children to live in one room. You have three children and know that you would have had more if you had been in the right position finance wise. Every couple should use birth control unless they hope the lady will get pregnant.

Hi Dream Healer. Yes, that is exactly what I mean. Imagine if Mozart had been aborted the world would have not met the brilliant musician. I know that many babies are being aborted and all of them would have become people but they are being thrown away. I think life begins at conception.

Think you expressed yourself pretty well. I think part of the point that Maximax is making is that a baby shouldn't be treated as some disposable consumer item, that couples should exercise some thought and restraint. I suppose part of the problem here is that once a couple get to know each other love making is so much more enjoyable when the male doesn't have to use protection. Yes, life is complex and it's definitely not perfect!

Abortion is legal in my country, and I think this is right. So many young people are not prepared to have a baby, it is better to them to choice abortion. Because if let the baby born, maybe they can't feed the baby. At that situation, can you imagine that baby's future? Do you think it's unfair to the baby? If like that, the baby can choice himself, I think he will choice he is not born. Happy mylot!

I think it is sad if a baby is not fed well and cared for lovingly. I feel that if a lady has an unwanted pregnancy the baby could be adopted to a loving couple. I hope that you are enjoying My Lot.

I agree with you oponion that baby can be adopted a loving couples. But I am sure there are not as many loving couples as unwanted baby. In my country, it is really expensive to feed a baby. Many people want to have two children or more, but they are afraid of they can't have enough vigor to feed two children. They should give the children a good condition, like good food for health and good education. Nobody want their children lose in the starting line. Actually, many couples are loving couples, but they don't have ability to feed additional children. Happy mylot!

In that case what do you think of international adoption? Some ladies can't get pregnant so they adopt an unwanted baby or child. If a couple have children it is best that they have enough to look after however many children they have well.

In my home country abortion isn't allowed. It is sad because LIFE as we know it, is sacred, precious and therefore, should be treasured. We only live once so taking the life of a baby even if she is disabled or something is still considered killing. However if both the mother and the child's life is in danger, i would agree of having the baby aborted. I am wondering as to why some countries allow abortion, because no matter what they say, it is still killing.

I guess no one can change the world. Abortion will always be part of the world whether we like it or not. I just hope that the aborted babies find solace and peace. It is good to know on the other hand that aborted babies don't have proper thinking, because i am afraid of what they will say about their parents that aborted them.

Yes, some men are really nasty and rape a lady, it resulting in a pregnancy. That is the nasty man's fault and the baby is still an innocent one. I feel very sorry for any lady in that difficult position. I heard about a lady that used abortion like a method of birth control. She had four abortions and didn't try to be more careful not to get pregnant again.

Its legal in my country. I completly approve of abortion. Parents have the right to choose if they want a baby or not. You don't want the child to grow up and ask the parents "if you were not interested in raising me, then why did you give birth to me."

Adoption is a great answer for that sort of parent. I think if a couple are in a serious relationship they should be using birth control. The lady should know that no form of birth control is 100% effective. If she doesn't agree to having a surprise baby then she shouldn't be in a serious relationship.

Well abortion still remains a topic of debate.......many feel it is right many feel it is not......humans have their own perceptions and values and they have the right to do what they feel like...... I am also against abortion, but then a thought comes to my mind that what about those women who get pregnant accidentally, what about those unfortunate who are rape victims, what about those who have a deformed child in their womb(depends form person to person) These all things makes me wonder that, there can actually be an exception to all these things......but then people who do it because they don't want a girl child, or those who are married and don't want a child then it is absolutely wrong, if you know you are not ready for a child then why not take necessary precautions, you are married and mature enough to understand things.....we can understand if it was a teenager and didn't knew things....... If we take religion into consideration, then there is no exception to anything, abortion is considered a murder and a sin......i have actually seen a video where they show how an abortion is done, they just crush the head of the child in the womb and remove the baby out.....what a gruesome sight it was...... so to sum it up, I feel that abortion should be considered in only some cases and there should be some kind of regulation on who can go ahead and abort a child !!!!

In my home country only 2% of abortions are because the lady's life is in danger, the baby was conceived during rape or the baby if born would be severely disabled. My toddler son had spina bifida and hydrocephalus. I had the option of an abortion at 36 weeks pregnancy but I said no way. I wanted my baby to live and my wish was granted. I think that birth control in a serious relationship is vital however no form of it is 100% effective. Even if a couple have an oral and a barrier method of birth control pregnancy can still happen. It did to my friend and she had her baby but she had to leave her studies at university. Yes, I have seen some videos of abortions and think the procedure of crushing the head is sick. I wonder how anyone can choose to work as an abortionist. Some people have actually be born in failed abortions. A lady was born during a saline abortion when her mother was 7 and a half months pregnant. Luckily a nurse sent the baby girl to hospital. She was adopted. I am pro life and wouldn't ever have an abortion. Thanks for your wonderful response.

Life is valuable and that is why many go for abortion. In my country abortion is legal if both husband and wife are ok or if the mother's condition is critical, otherwise the procedure is not so easy. I personally think it is good in many cases where the mother does not want her kid to grow in bad conditions and there are many situations where one should abort the fetus instead of allowing the kid to grow and suffer. However, there are many who misuse this freedom give - i don't really appreciate it when people think abortion as an option after wrong doing

In my home country 98% of abortions are done for social reasons. The other 2% are because the mother's life is in danger or the baby if born would be severely disabled. A test is done at 16 weeks pregnancy that can detect spina bifida and a 20 week scan is done on the vast majority of pregnant ladies. It wasn't found until 36 weeks pregnancy that my baby son had spina bifida. I was offered an abortion and I said no way. He is now a happy little two year old.

I am not for abortions as it is a taking of a life. But I also know that having a baby and then giving it up for adoption can also cause problems psychologically for the mother. My husband was adopted and after the adoption his mother went mad and her mental health till this day is suffering even though he has come back into her life, she negates him. I am very grateful that he was born. I think they're are no hard and fast rules, it's not a black and white scenario. There are many situations that abortion is the best answer, like rape etc. I think now with the morning after pill, abortions will reduce dramatically. I know this to be the case in India

I am happy that your husband was born. I am so sorry to hear about the emotional problems the adoption gave his original mother. I feel so sorry for every lady that gets raped that is terrible enough. Getting pregnant by an evil rapist must be even worse. A fetus or a baby in a womb is an innocent one. I am pleased that the morning after pill has reduced the number of abortions.

In my opinion, the abortion issue is not about right or wrong. It's about the Spirit within each of us being recognized or not being recognized. If a person considering abortion went into a quiet room with no noise, no intrusion from cell phones, tvs, friends etc. - and sought help from the center of their spiritual being, the answer would be on the side of the physical life growing within. Should anyone think Spirit is not within, give yourself the test of silence and sojourn to the center of your quiet self. Search. Make your own decision without interference. Life begins at conception. Human life.

"The spirit within us" is a lovely thing to write about. Thank you for your wonderful response to my discussion. Some men try to influence their girlfriend to have an abortion. Thinking in a quiet room would help many pregnant ladies decide to keep their baby I imagine.

Personally i would never have an abortion for myself, but i am not against it putting a child up for adoption is one of the hardest things someone can do (i know i did it). The emotional trauma is long lasting and can create some serious issues with the mother. It took me a long time to pull myself together. So abortion would be much easier emotionally as you never see, or hold the child, you never name it, hear its cries. So I'm not against it. Some people just can't handle that, imagine what something like that would do to a 12-15 year old girl? Poor kid would never be the same (wouldn't be the same after an abortion either but it'd sure as heck be easier for her) Plus everyone say adoption is the thing, but honestly, there are too many babies and not enough homes for them. Really The easiest way to put s stop to all of this, is to force birth control, put it in our foods or something and give us a special diet when its ok for us to have kids. *shrugs* would stop the abortions and pro/non people fights.

I am sorry that you had a hard time dealing with you adopting your baby. Hopefully he or she is having a happy life. So well done. It is a shame that adopters sometimes have a rough ride emotionally. I don't think an abortion is easy to handle for around 80% of ladies that have one. They can feel regret and depression. A special diet is a great idea. Thanks.

what country are you in? well, it really depends on the country. Here in the philippines, abortion is strictly prohibited since we are a christian (mostly roman catholic) country. Though, there are still cases of some illegal abortion taking place... The laws of the government regarding abortion also depends on the population level. It the government wants to control population growth, then they might allow abortion of some sort.

In Poland, abortion is illegal unless it's proven that the mother's welfare is seriously in danger. One women was told by three doctors that the chances were good that she'd become blind if she carried the child to full term. The court didn't buy that argument, she was forced to carry the child...now she has three children to care for with serverely impaired vision. It is estimated that there's thousands of women in Poland who are entitled to abortion but are denied it. I'd post the story of the Polish women, but well, they don't let me copy and paste yet, and I am horrible at copying links..so, what can I say, the EU court ordered Poland to compensate the lady for her loss of vision. my question is this, how do you protect the baby's live, without compromising the mothers? Can you really expect a mother to sacrifice her life, for her baby? Do you believe all women should be willing to endanger their wellbeing to being a baby into the world? What about women like this one, who has a few little ones already at home solely dependent on them? Shouldn't they be factored into the equation also? Na, the problem is, we see childbearing as an obligation, or a punishment from God, and not what it truly is....a sacrifice!! Thus, we don't respect women, or their role as mothers, and we often find ourselves seeing the children more of a curse or punishment than as a gift. you have no right to tell the women from poland that she should give up her sight, for the sake of an unborn baby, it's a choice only she has the right to make!

I think that abortion should be illegal in all countries... Whether a child is going to be seriously disabled or not there are ways now a days to cope with seriously disabled children that help them lead ALMOST normal lives... I also think that God has a plan for everyone and if he wants to take the other during child birth it means that she has completed the task that he put her on this earth to do and that she needs to let the baby be born so that that child can live a full life and complete the task at hand... I am TOTALLY AGAINST abortion and I think that anyone who has an abortion should be taken out behind the barn and shot repeatedly... I've had a child and if they had told me that it was going to take my life to have my son I would have without a doubt told them that I was still going to go through with my pregnancy and that I had lived my life and it was time for my son to live his....
