Would you help your neighbor?

In India, we do try and help people; like friends and close family members. But in countries like the US I'm told, there is hardly any interaction between neighbors. Is this true? And is the practice in other 'civilized' countries as well? Sure could do with some comments here.

I think every country has places where neighborlessness is present. In my place here in central Philippines, the neighbors in the left side of the house are very neighborly and the neighbors in the right side are friendly but you seldom see them. but the seldom seen neighbors are always there to lend a hand and we help as well but the neighbors to the left, hmmm, we always help but I think it's just one way.

Sandymay, I might have got my radar wrong, I should have said that a minority of a nation's population stay aloof and stay away from neighborly interaction. All the feedback I have received so far suggest that neighborly relations are strong everywhere. Thats good. Thank you for responding to my discussion.
