Unemployment

The economy is not the best these days. Some states have run out of money and are no longer able to pay unemployment. Some people are out of a job for over 2 years. How are you dealing with this situation? Do you think the economy is going to turn around soon? If you are unemployed, how long have you been unemployed and what are you doing now? How to you try to make extra money? Are you going to school for extra education or do you participate in any programs your state offers for re-training? What is your advice to other people?

I lost my job back in December 2008, due to the company closing. I am currently drawing my unemployment, I have no benefits and no medical insurance. I give thanks to God that I am currently doing good. I am able to pay for my doctor's visit on a pay plan and I get one of my meds for free from the manufacturer, and the other one I get from Walmart for $4.00. My advice is to not give up, trust in God and do a lot of researching, cut back on some of the things in your life.

Mine didn't, it was told to us in one of the meetings that our insurance was canceled the moment we left out the door for the last time. I have proof of it, my blood work was filed for insurance and they told them that I no longer had insurance with that company.

I always thought the medical insurance continues of a year if you lose your job.

I need to check that out I really thought that they couldn't drop the coverage just like that or at least give you the option to pay the insurance yourself.

We live in a small town and there are no jobs at all right now, just nothing. My boyfriend works, I try to help out with the crafts that I make and sell, and doing jobs for our land lord when he needs stuff done. A friend of my mother is finding it very hard to find a job as places keep telling her she is over-qualified for the position and jobs she is qualified for are not accepting new applications or are not hiring. It's tough right now, for everyone. I hope things improve soon but I'm not seeing any sign of improvement.

Have you tried to sell your crafts online or are you already doing it. If so I'm interested in how you doing with it or better said how it is done.

Well I used to use eBay but the subscription fees for a seller at times took more then I made for the month so I stopped using that. I sell more at fairs, in booths, or at parties. I also used etsy, which I also used to use. Etsy is a place online for people to sell their hand made items. A similar site is bluejay, it's not yet as popular as etsy but it's picking up more and more traffic so it's only a matter of time till it gets up there. If your interested in selling hand made items/crafts that you do, I would recommend taking a peek at etsy.

Thank you for the info. I do more painting then other stuff. My boyfriend has been asking me to open a studio. Our city offers free studio space of 6 months. I don't think I'm that good when it comes to painting that I would make enough money. A friend told me that ebay can become expensive. Plus what a lot of people do on ebay is they drive the bit up for their own stuff. Just to make sure they are not going to sell their stuff at a loss.

well. as the recession affected the global economic and more and more people lost their jobs and become one enemployment man . that's really the headache of the goverment how to help them to find a new job or even make a live without earning . but seems here not face such problems still since the goverment never pay for unemployments.

True after posting this discussion I realized how bad it really was and that it is indeed affecting the whole global economy. I really didn't think it is that bad. You wrote "That's really the headache of the government how to help them find a new job". Do you think the it is the government's responsibility to help people find a job or it is the government's responsibility to provide job. If so would that not violate the entire economy theory model of an efficient market system?

I am going to school. I started two years ago after I read Rich Dad Poor Dad. I never thought it would get this bad. This is bad!
