Is stillness and quiet important when seeking God?

In Psalm 46 verse 10 we are told, "Be still and know that I am God". Likewise in 1St Kings chapter 19 and verse 12 Elijah finds God in "a still small voice". What important do you put on silence when seeking God?

Stillness is not only important; it is imperative. Talk is cheap, but silence is golden, for only in the deep silence can you hear that still small voice; some call it the inner muse, at the core of your being where God resides. The kingdom of God is within. THAT is the living God that transcends all religions, which are but branches of the same tree. There is nothing outside of me but reflected projections. Row, row, row your boat! And life is but a dream. Are you the dreamer or the dreamed?

Hi khrackow, We appear to think very much alike. Thank you for your comment. Blessings.

If we think alike, it is because our thinking is from the same source. The One in you is same One in me. "Ask and it will be given unto you." But watch what you are asking for because you will get with everything that comes with it. How easily we forget that when we make our wishes. Row your boat gently down the Stream; we will get to the Ocean soon enough. River run, river run all the way to the Sea; River run, river run to where I am destined to be. I will rise with a vapour on my way to the Sun; River run, river run, in the Truth we are already One.

Yea, I believe it is important. If it is not quiet, I think we cannot really concentrate right? Our thinking and concentration will be affected. I believe God deserves our 100% attention. :)

Well for me when Praying and seeking God it is important to be able to listen with a still small voice, as for the most part if you are not listening you will never hear, and god does not just send down something usually and you know that that is god. You have to listen and know it is him. There are a lot of false voices out there these days so unless you are listening and know when God is talking to you you can be misled as well.

To me is important to pray in private because sometimes we need time alone with our God to put ourselves in touch with whaterver is going on.

Silence before God is necessary if we are to actually hear message to us. It shows we acknowledge His Majesty and Holiness. Our silence shows our humbleness and meekness...that we know we are small before one so Great. It shows we have conquered our pride.

I think that what God is saying is basically.. quit worrying about everything. Stop and let me handle it. I've been working on a song and the chorus for it says... "People say that I gave it all. But what they don't see is I'm still afraid to take the fall. I would give anything... Just to hear My God say my name!" I seek God everyday before I head out. And I seek him in a quiet place so that I can concentrate on Him. But basically I just talk to God. God Bless

Hi eternal_ink, "Quit worrying about everything.Stop and let me handle it".I really like that thought, and if more people followed that advice, we'd be a happier people. When you think about it, that's something that we will all have to do at the end anyway. Thank you for commenting. Blessings.

not as far as I am concerned. God can be found in many different places. If we only looked for god in the still and quiet, I don't think God would ever be found. How often is our world really still and quiet, with the busy lives that people lead, in these busy times?

Hi danishcanadian, You do have a point and God is everywhere, however I think that we should find time to be quite and go within. For me anyway, it is when I feel that presence most real. Thank you for expressing your views and presenting a new way of looking at the discussion. Blessings.

Due to the flight of our conscious mind, when trying to get in touch with your spiritual side it is best done in quite. When our senses are being subjected to outside noise it is double the trouble to shut it out.
