Do you have drive-in movies in your area?

We used to have them when I was very small. As far as I know none exist in our area anymore. There used to be one across the way 20yrs ago or so but now it's an outdoor storage facility + mulch + topsoil place. Such a shame as the sign is still up but that's the way life rolls I suppose. There was one by my Aunt's house when I was small but that like many cleared plots of land was made an offer they coundn't refuse and they sold out to a developer. It's now a huge condo complex

Many years ago there use to be a Drive-In about 15 miles from here. That was the big thing for teenagers and families to do. Now I only know of one Drive-In that is around. It is about 130 miles away from us. The Drive-In that was close is now a the owner of Big Sandy Furniture Store. I wish they would come back out with the Drive-In's. I think it would bring the family together more often.

Yeah that would would be quite a trek to get there wouldn't it. What a shame you have to go so far to enjoy a drive-in.

I just thought of something. I wonder what the kids of today would think if they did build a Drive-In. I bet they would think that it was one of the most funniest thing around. To watch a movie in your car or out of the back of your truck. Maybe that would be something that could be a qusetionaire for the teenagers. You have a good day.

We do have one here but I've never been to it yet. I used to love drive-in movies! Take a picnic with you and be as comfortable as you wish! Now that you've reminded me, I might just go sometime--if they come up with a decent movie. I just have no interest in most of the movies they produce now.

dragon...I will have to agree with you. They just don't make that many good movies any more. Im not into the alien thing or scary movies. I like comedy, real life stuff, and the disney movies. It seems that they just dont produce this kind of movies that much any more.

no..they finally shut it down because the rotten neighborhood kids set fire to the screens every winter.the woman said it cost $5000 to fix it every time they did that,so now it's condos. sad..they had to ruin it for everyone.

We have one. It's a good 20-30 minute drive from here. We've only been there the once. Normally they show double or triple features in the summer. Last weekend they were showing the GI Joe movie and the new Transformers. It costs $7 for adults and $2 for kids, so it's not really expensive at all, great activity for families. But we've been so broke this summer, and when we do get extra money we plan other things, like last weekend we went to an amusement park. That's why we haven't been back to the drive in this year.

There isn't any around where I live now. I am near the big city of Chicago and most of the drive-ins have been turned into something else or just torn down. In Wi though where I am originally from I believe have a few left here and there. My family go once in a great while even still, just for the fun of showing the kids or grandkids what they are like before they totally disappear completely.

Yes, we have one but it is a miserable experience trying to watch a movie there. It is full of truckloads of unruly kids and irresponsble adults. My daughter and son like to go but they are still young enough where such nonsense don't bother them. I love the nostalgia of the ole outdoor theaters but the thrill quickly wanes when you can't hear or see the movies because of all the activity going on all about the property. I miss the days when parents could be parents and rein their children in in public. The last city I lived in converted their drive-in into a giant flea market. I do believe most of them have disappeared. Too bad, I really miss 'em a lot.

I don't think we still have drive inn's here though I haven't really checked around to be sure, but most likely we don't because of the rise of the indoor theaters, but I think and wish they'd bring the outdoor drive inn's theaters back so we can have more then one option to choose from, I remember going to the drive inn's as a kid and I miss those times I have some wonderful memory's of going to the drive inn's.

I wish a have the experience to go to one, I think it will be fun. I just watched it from movies when I was small and it was an old movie where the boy climbed up a tree to watch the movie from afar. I wonder if they still have such thing nowadays but I doubt it. I agree with you that maybe they want the big plot to do something else that will generate more money.

I only see the drive-in movies in the film. In my country have no any drive-in movies. But I remember there are some cinima without roof when I was young. When I am a university student I also see the film in the play ground. We should bring the chair by ourself, it sounds funny, but it is the truth. Now all the cinima are in good buildings or a malls. Happy mylot!

Drive-in almost give up the ghost!!! The 80's started out fair and got very bad before they end.Low attendence almost kills the drive-in. Many owners say it hits over night."Last year 500 cars on a Friday this year 50 cars." What's happening? Many things hit to pull people away from the drive-in. Some of the biggest are Cable TV and VCR's. Hollywood is right to our home, so why go anywhere?

From what I understand, the town right outside of where I grew up used to have a drive in theatre but that was several years before I was born. The place ended up going out of business and several other businesses came in and built up buildings and took over the area. From what I understand, there is a drive in theatre about 30 minutes or so from where I'm living now. I'm not exactly sure where it is but I've heard that it's quite easy to drive too and that you get two movies for the price of one which is excellent I think. They also have a burger bar which I think is pretty neat. I've never been to a drive in so I wouldn't mind trying to find it one weekend.

I've never been to a drive-in movie theater, but it would be nice. Although since it is only open during the summers, the Oklahoma heat could change my mind - even at night. We have one drive-in movie theater about 30 minutes away, but it is located in a questionable neighborhood. The other is about an hour from here, but I've never seen it.

There were are few places where we could go to drive-in movies when I was little. Then they started to knock them down through the years. I don't think there are any left in our area anymore. I wish they would bring the drive-in movies back. I had so much fun going to them.

We only have one left and they have been trying to close it for years now to make way for other things. I have always enjoyed going and it is great to bring the kids to that way the don't disturb anyone in the movie. I can only hope that they will let ours remain open for everyone to enjoy. I saw my first movie when I was a kid there and it is a tradition that I hope can continue on for many years to come.

In my area (east tennessee) there are actually a few drive in theaters that are still open. There are 3 that I can think of right off hand, and if I dug around I could probably find a couple more within a reasonable distance. I have often wondered how these drive ins stay open. It seems no one ever goes there. But I suppose somehow they make a profit. I really don't go to the theater...ever...I just don't enjoy it. For one it's too expensive and also, you can't smoke in there. The drive in is better, but with two young kids I'm not sure how much of the move I'd actually get to see. lol.

No they've all gone now. I think its a pity. I used to enjoy going to the drive in. Wonder why they all closing down these days. Its funny how things change isn't it? Drive-ins were the big thing when I was young but the cinema houses did not do so well. Now the cinema houses are opening up again and drive-ins closing. Guess we watch our DVD's at home instead.
