Does anyone take anything to help them sleep at night? I was going to ask my doctor about ambien or lunesta? I have trouble sleeping and usually manage it with over the counter drugs but it might be nice to take a prescription rememdy and see if I like it any better. What about you? Do you have anything you could recommend for sleep trouble?

Read response #2 I made a comment too. Don't take Ambien, I think it dangerous stuff, a side effect is sleepwalking. People have also been known to get in their cars and drive. As for lunesta, I don't know anyting sabout that. My hubby took Retoral, that helped him sleep, but when you took that you need to go to bed and not stay up. I don't normally have troubles with sleeping, I am one of the ucky ones. Limit caffeine, don't eat heavy at night, don't take naps, have a dark bedroom, those kinds of things help some people. Say a prayer and ask God to help you go to sleep. Good luck and I wish you a good night sleep tonight and everynight.

Unless you have a serious, long term issue with insomnia which you need to talk to a doctor about, I'd recommend what some of the others here have recommended. Also, keep your bedroom for sleeping. If you're using it as an active area too, you won't associate your bedroom with sleeping only and find it harder to fall asleep. I find that Benedry, hot milk or a relaxing tea work well for me most of the time. I do have trazodone as a back up, but that is due to insomnia caused by my anxiety and not being able to slow my mind down. I only need to take that once every few months.

I could go to sleep but I'd probably be up until three or four and just sleep a few hours. I wouldnt get as much sleep as I need. It is not fun to have this problem though.

Oh, yes, that's a different problem altogether. I have trouble with initially falling asleep, but once I'm out, I'm out. Not being able to stay asleep would take a different tactic than falling asleep. I know they do make extended release versions of some of the sleep aids. Maybe those would be something to talk to with your doctor. Do be aware of the side effects of the medication if you and your doctor do decide to try them. (That's true for any new med, though, not just sleep aids).

I've had insomnia for years. I've tried Benedryl OTC and it works sometimes, but, I personally like Trazadone. It's an old anti-depressant but used in small doses works wonders for insomniacs. It's tried and true. Been around for years. I agree with the others. I'd avoid Ambien or Lunesta. They haven't been out long enough in my opinion to really give us a good idea of side effects and long term usage effects like Trazadone or the older meds out there. The other thing to think about too is getting to the root of the problem. What is causing you to stay awake at night? Is it stress? If it is, maybe try to remedy the stressor in your life. Easier said than done, I know. Anyway, good luck and best wishes.

First thing you have to do is go to bed at the same time every night. Next, nothing makes a person sleepy like putting a load on the system. Do some heavy exercise during the day. Last, noise therapy, listen to white noise or pink noise. They had lots of sounds that will help you sleep. Some of the low deep sounds make me sleepy when I hear them. At one time I took a sleeping pill to sleep but you just aren't rested the next day. Good luck!!

i do swim and try to watch caffeine but I am still usually keyed up when I go to sleep and if I do sleep I wake up usually at two or three O'clock and cant sleep. It is really pretty irritating. I hate being sleepy the next day.

Hi Snowy, I used to take sedatives or sleeping pills to help me sleep, many years back. But I often woke up groggy and moody the next day. My reflexes were affected, very much slower. So I tried not to take these - when I really can't sleep, I either read or watch TV until tired. I also try not to worry about not sleeping. After one night of not sleeping, I would be very exhausted by the end of the next day, and usually fall asleep easily.

You should relax your body before going to sleep. Me, I drink milk to make me fall asleep easily. Or I drink moringa tea or capsule.. It also relaxes my body so that I will also fall asleep easily and have a deep sleep.. Others will do a light exercise, a way to relax their body before going to bed..

Well if i could swallow pills i would be taking pills as i need it really bad as i can not fall asleep at all with some type of medicine in my system to make me fall asleep at all. Right now till i go to the doctor for my throat issue i am taking about four to five teaspoons at night of benedryl to make me go to sleep which is really bad but its working for now and i can a good night of sleep some night. Last night was not a good night at all. I kept waking up every couple of hours and that would annoy me and i would just be really tired today and not want to do much, but at least i=I'm on here mylotting and trying to earn a few earnings for the day before going to a BBQ for a cousins bday.

i do not require pills to sleep. not as yet. and i guess it is not good to get used to it. whenever i have a problem sleeping i take a hot shower, a cup of warm milk and breathe deeply 10 to 15 times. it works for me and i guess there is no harm in trying. or if possible try some yoga. (please note that yoga should be learnt under supervision of trained people).

I've also not sleep well, ofthe insomnia. The doctor told me not to sleep during the day. participate in some meaningful activities. do not drink tea and coffee. You can first go to hospital for examination. If there are no other diseases. This suggested the following methods: bedtime walk,a glass of warm milk, or a warm bath.Living environment:to ensure that sleep environment, ventilation, temperature sui table for quiet noise-free.
