Your special "thinking place..."

United States

Sometimes, life gets so crazy that many people cannot "hear themselves think," or "find any peace." However, most of us do have our own unique and special place, that place to where we go when we just want to be alone, or where we can think for a while uninterrupted. Where is your special place in this life to go and think, to be by yourself and in peace for a while? Mine is a park nearby with beautiful trees and a big lake. I can enjoy just being there with nature, my faith, and my special thoughts.

Hello my wonderful friend, that sounds wonderful, parks and me don't mix,I don't like squerls I can't even spell it, you know the little creatures that live in the trees and look like rats, I don't like parks just because of them, I was attacked by them, I hate them, o.k sorry don't mean to ruin this wonderful discussion... I would just go to my room, close my door and I am happy, I get a lot of time by myself and I love it, sometimes we do get overwhelmed and need that me time, great post as always.. Sorry for the rant, I really dislike those things..

Hello my friend. Yes, if you don't like those critters, you would not like my parks! Ack! I would hate to be attacked by a squirrel! A room of one's own is a perfect place to just think, be alone, and have some peaceful time. Don't mind the rant. I didn't even think of it as that, but rather just sharing a frightening experience. Hugs, Karen

Well it depends as if I want to go and clear my head I generally go out into the back garden and stare up at the sky. Thankfully the garden is quite secluded so I am not over looked and although at certain times of the day the noise of traffic can be overwhelming at others it is a wonderful play of tranquility. Now you may laugh buy if I want to get away from all the distractions so that I can hear myself think and get something straight in my head, I will go and sit on the toilet. It to me is one of the best places to do your thinking with just a door infront of you and no distractions.

I do most of my thinking when I first wake up real early in the morning. When the world is still dark and real quiet , just before dawn . Thoughts flood my brain every morning at that time. To clear my mind I walk the beach . WAlking the beach , seems to take away all my concerns , and clears my mind

Hi Daily. Both places you've described are excellent ways to get alone with oneself and do some thinking. And no, the bathroom is where I had to go for peace when living between two homes for a year with my daughter and her family, as I did not have a room of my own there. And I also find gardens and the sky a good way to meditate or just contemplate life. Have a nice night. Karen

Hello Beachstarz. I know many people who love the quiet of the early morning hours. And I have to say, that walking on a beach, with the sounds and aromas of nature and the water all around, are indeed a good way to find peace and just think. Thank you for sharing these insights. Karen

I guess mine is strange in that I find the best thinking place and 'my time' is when I am in my car! To me my car is like a bubble that keeps the world out and just me, no one can touch me and I am away from people and it's my own safe pod inside that comfort bubble. Even when I am driving I find that I can think so much deeply and it helps a great deal, it's extremely therapeutic, and just by driving through the country I feel a sense of great freedom. It's wonderful. When I needed time away, I went off camping in 2006, just me and my car and my tent and my moutain bike for 4 weeks it was bliss! I guess in a way it was a journey to find myself and boy did I do a lot of thinking not just in the car but in the tent where I felt safe, cosy and warm and 'alone'

Hello Wolfie. Not so strange, but actually very beautiful! When all my daughters were young, I used to sometimes sit in my car and listen to music for a half-hour or so. I was nearby as they played in the yard, could see them, and yet, myself and my music could have some thinking time, uninterrupted. Like you, at a later point, I went for long drives in the country for the purpose of being alone to think. I think your four weeks of bliss with a car and a tent sounds a bit like heaven on earth. How nice to have such a place! I would love to be able to say my place was my own garden but that just isn't the case. I kind of have a situation at home where I can be quiet but that is usually because no one knows I am there.

Hi Canellita. We find our peaceful places where we can, yes? And to be home without anyone knowing you're there yet offers that. I was raised in a very large family, but even in the midst of it, there was always some comfy chair where I could curl up and lose myself in a book. We create those places however we can. Have a lovely day. Karen

I know exactly what you mean. My spot is the roof top of my apartment building. Since I live in a really tall building, the roof top is like another world. It's so quiet and you can see the skyline so clearly. The landlord has thoughtfully fixed lights there, and some light furniture. So there are quite a few of us who "get away" without going too far and relax. I especially like it because it means I don't have to get dressed up, or drive somewhere...I'm still at home, but I'm not at home. That is my "thinking place," my "alone place", my "quiet time" place...and I consider myself fortunate - to be able to enjoy something like that.

Hello Jag. I love the place you've chosen as your own quiet, dreaming, thinking alone spot. I think it would be great being atop a tall building in the middle of the city...and yet alone. It was nice of the landlord to make it a comfortable place for people to go. Have a happy day! And thank you for sharing your rooftop this morning. Karen

mine is really crazy and i am sure lot of people will share it.. not literally though!it is..... wait for it...... the magnificent LOO! well somehow wenever i am der it is so peaceful! maybe it is because of the fact dat i am getting something out of me! forgive the pun! it is jus me for starters in the loo and there is no tv, stereo or a phone to distract u... and it is where i can think freely because it is one of the few places where my father cant come near me and tell me wat to do and wat i am doing wrong....i think a lot of things some useful, some not so useful, some solutions to my coursework, my speeches, my rehearsal for presentations. the loo has seen the best and worst of me .such 'loo'cid thoughts!

LOL Diwakar...your place is not crazy at all! Several others, in fact, have also mentioned the "loo" as their special place to think or to be alone. I can see the benefits of that LOL. And I say, hey, whatever works for you...that is the thing that counts most :D Karen

I like to go walking along our road or the roads connecting to it, myself. I usually can't go alone, but as long as I don't walk with my Mother or whomever I'm unhappy with, it's usually just as good as if I went out to meditate while sitting on top of our stone-capped well or to my room or the garden with a book. Our roads have fields, trees, creeks, and animals (mainly dogs, sheep, and cattle) all along them. And, if I go far enough, horses/ponies and a graveyard. So it's really pretty and peaceful. Like with meditating sitting out by our well or in the garden, it helps me feel my connection with nature more strongly...and helps my faith soothe and resettle my mind and bring me back to what I need to be thinking about.

Hi XP. I also love to connect with nature. It brings one's faith very close to the surface and nature, for me, has always been all the proof I've needed that there is indeed a Creator. The countryside where you live and walk sounds beautiful, as do the places you go nearer home to be alone with nature, or a book, or your own thoughts. It gives me a feeling of peace just to hear you describe them. Have a beautiful day. Karen

I do my best thinking while walking the dog, or actually she walks me since she picks the route we take and the places we go. She always picks nice places and does not talk enough to interrupt my thinking.

Hi Cotton. I can see where caring for or walking your dog would be a good time to think or just enjoy being out and about. Pets make good company, and being outside and walking and just enjoying the sights...also a good time for thinking and relaxing. Have a happy night. Karen

For me it's just my bathroom. When I'm drawing water for my bath and just sitting around waiting, it is the best time for me to think. Sometime about being in a room where no one could disturbed me gives me freedom to just listen to my own thoughts.

Hi Anime...what a nice way and place to find some time and peace for yourself. A bath is so relaxing. And the water as it fills the tub, does indeed soothe and drown out "noise," so that we can actually hear our own thoughts. Enjoy your next bath... Karen

Well we are not having any such calm and natural parks to get some peace. But people here and also me,go to temples/church's to get some peace when they are in worries and tensions. After a hectic day,I feel relaxed when I put on some music and sleep for some time.Music really calms me down and makes me fresh. To get rid of some tensions or problems, the best thing to do is to have a nap. lol...One place where people think the most is in their wash rooms. As you go,one more good option is to watch natures beauty and enjoy our surroundings.

Hi Dsharat. I think wherever one lives, it is possible to find a place to call our own for a bit and capture some peace, as you do in church or temple. And yes, sleep will give us a break, as does good music and nature! Thank you for sharing your "special places" in the busy world with us. Karen

I always keep my mind thinking, the places you are at has a big difference on how one thinks and to what extent. The places that feel comfortable enough may make one person lazy too that ends a thought that may have gone on to be a better one similar places that are not so comfortable too makes disturbances in one's mindset.i must say I think at places where I usually am a part of,in my balcony, in my bedroom and also in bathrooms, when you are relaxing in a hot bath tub,or on top of a closet no less to say. Thinking can never stop no matter where one is.

Hello Tintu...I agree that the human mind is always full of, and busy with, a million thoughts. Where we are does influence how we feel and what may capture our thoughts. Your "thinking places," such as the balcony or your bedroom or bathroom make for handy niches to do some thinking. Thank you for sharing that! Karen

Yes, we each have our own preferences, but for me, somewhere outside in nature is best of all, or near a window where I can see outside. And lonely places are the best, so that one can be undisturbed or uninterrupted Karen

I opt for much fresher places nowadays mostly my balcony because the green and the fresh air make your mind set on the right path. People choose different places to sit along which they find beautiful and filled with nothing other than only themselves, lonely places are the best right.

Hi Tsukihime. It is good to have a room of your own where you can find some quiet time to think. We all need that sort of aloneness on a regular basis, and wherever or however you find it is good. I hope your day goes well! Karen

Hey, I don't really have a special 'thinking place' except for my own room. Whenever I come in my room I can think all I want, for some reason I feel really great when I stay in my room, it relaxes me. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I guess my 'special thinking place' is at my local park, even though I haven't really gone out there for that purpose in a while. I always liked going out there and sitting in the parking lot under this tree, especially when no one else is out there. It's pretty peaceful and quiet.

Hello Darth. I have a very similar place near where I live to do some of my "alone time" too. The beauty of a park and the quiet of one's own vehicle sets up a perfect place to be by oneself and do some thinking. Thank you for telling us of your spot! And have a beautiful day. Karen

There are three places that I really like to stay when I am thinking or depressed (wherein I could just cry & cry without being disturbed) or just daydreaming or I just wanted to be alone. The first one is my room. Though my mom & I share the same room, but I could still be myself & think especially when she is not around (she works in the morning and returns home at night, while I work at night time & comes home in the morning). The second place is the Adoration Chapel here in our church. This is a very solemn & the holiest place where I could just cry for hours & talk to God & just tell him freely all the emotions that I have. he third one is a very weird place, it is the comfort room. Really, I enjoy staying there. There was even an instance way back high school days that my friends do not want to talk to me because of certain misunderstaindings. So every morning before I go to shower, I would read my bible there. These are the places that I love to stay to when I want to isolate myself from the world and other poeple.

Hello Jamzy, and welcome to MyLot :) It is good that you and your mom work opposite hours, since you share a room. That allows each of you some alone time there :) Your chapel and the comfort room sound so beautiful and peaceful. What lovely places to which you can sometimes escape and just be with your feelings, your thoughts, and God. Thank you for sharing those :) Take care and have a nice night. Karen

Yes, indeed life can get out of hand everyday, and we need to get away sometime. The only two place that I love to go to is the Beach and the park I can walk to in the morning. The beach always made me speech less and very relax too when you can put your feet in the sand, and listen to the waves crashing on the shore as well as seeing the sunset. Saying the word Hawaii can make me dream and escape in my mind easily. Unfortunately, I am in Texas and no beaches here where I stay. So I would pop in the Ocean CD and listen to it to relax. The park I can go when ever I want, I feel when I go for a walk out there That i can vent all my thoughts and leave with an open mind and have positive thoughts or just simply wake up. Looking at the green leaves in the tree, seeing sunshine, and hearing the air just kind of soothes me and calm me too. I also find that when my parents would go on long road trips that had trees all over the place I would fall asleep so quickly and be drowsy all the way it horrible.. but it good. Green is suppose to relax you when you look at it too. Now you know the two place that help me relax and getaway.

Hello Sweetart. Parks and beaches are extraordinary, yes? The ocean or a mountain makes me feel both large and small at the same time. Such power and beauty! I love to go different places in my imagination, too, or in a book. The nature Cds are a great alternative to the real sounds of nature. I often use them to fall asleep with, and my imagination fills in the rest. Like you, I think green is very relaxing, and so is blue! You've found some extraordinary ways to think, relax, and just unwind. Karen

I have a spot in my bedroom that I go to on a daily basis. It has a comfy chair, with good lighting, my journal, fountain pen, inkwell, candle and rosary on a table next to the chair. That's where I go to relax and spend time with myself and God. There is also a place I go to for retreats, which I try to go to once or twice a year. There are small hermitages, woods with trails, a beaver pond, meditation house and a labyrinth. There's no phone, internet or TV. I go there when I need a major recharge of my batteries.

Hello Sehlers...and welcome to MyLot. Your bedroom sanctuary sounds like a little piece of heaven, the perfect place to pray or think or yes, talk with God or read a great book. I also like the idea of your retreats. The setting sounds perfect for recharging one's energy, wandering about, and just being at peace. Thank you for sharing those. Take care... Karen
