Each of us has a technique to get our writing going for the day. But, alas, sometimes we need a change from the techniques that get us going. For example, methods that help us create and generate new story ideas. I have learned several over the years, but always look for other ways to help kick start my writing, especially when I have a block. Here are a few ideas to help jump start your writing and if you don't mind sharing, that would be wonderful.
"A Thousand Words about Nothing"
This technique is very helpful. Follow the steps and you may come up with a best seller.
1) Look around you and pick an object in your home. For example: the sofa.
2) On the top of a sheet of paper write the word.
3) Draw 2 lines extending off of the word to create the next line. What 2 words pop in your mind when you think of a sofa.
4) Branch of 2 words from each of those words and continue on.
5) Now taking the words that you have branched off, see if you can write a thousand words about your initial subject, the sofa.
I hope this will help you on your next writing adventure.
Happy Writing!

Sorry about the late response. :( I've been terrible lately about responding.
I have to admit, I use this technique as well. I actually starting working with it after attending a writing conference by a fabulous poet. Her name is Natalie Goldberg, she actually teaches you how to get started and in her books about writing she expands in other realms to help get the creative juices flowing.
One of her best books has to be "Writing down the Bones"

That is such a good idea. My co-workers and I have been trying to come up with ideas to get our client to work on creative writing more. I like this idea, I'm sure my client can come up with a few stories about the things in her apartment. Not to mention what it could do about my writing. thanks for sharing.

Sorry about the late response. You are quite welcome. I think that if all of us as writers can share tips to help one another out, we can improve on many levels.
Even right here on Mylot simply making sure that we use correct sentence structure when replying to other comments can help to improve our writing skills.
If we write well, this will also help others to write well if not better. :)
