Hello, I'm looking into going back to school online for medical transciption. Can anyone in this industry give me any information whether or not it's worth it and if you did complete this career how soon did you find work. I'm just worried about investing into my education in this economy for this career path and find out the hard way that maybe I should have invested in something else.

This is something that I have been really considering giving a try myself. There was this place that had a seminar earlier this year my mother and I went to about medical transcription training that this company offered. The woman said on average the course takes six months and if I had the money I would love to give this a shot. Obviously working from home isn't the only option. You can work in hospitals and clincs if you wanted and could get hired. So if anything, you could at least try there. But I'd prefer working from home myself if I could ever get the training. I know two doctors (one is a friend of my sister and her husband) and the other is a dermatologist I have to see every so often and have seen for several years. You don't necessarily have to work for yourself to work from home. One of my father's friend's wife is a medical transcriptionist who works from home. She works for a company and works from home. From what I understand, I think the companies more or less get you the work. Unfortunately it's not the first hand experience you wanted but I hope I helped some. Finding work is far from impossible but like any and everything else, it's just takes determination and stuff like that.

I appreciate your input... my mother is a paralegal and knows plenty of doctors... It's not so much as investing to become a medical transciptionist that will eventually disappear as a valid position versus ... I want to make sure that I invest well in my education. Thanks for your input again.
