My husband and I are both Certified Hypnotherapists. I know when we talk with people, there are frequently a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis in general, so am wondering about the general opinion here. Do you think Hypnotherapy (hypnosis) is a valid tool to help with a variety of issues? Do you see it as part of the "snakeoil salesmen" mentality? Have you ever undergone hypnosis?

Yes, I know hypnotherapy is a beneficial tool. I have been helped with it. It has helped me reformat bad habits into good ones, and ease my depression, and help with pain management, and just plain at times fun to have fun with. I have undergone it many times, and I enjoy hypnosis.

Thanks for the positive input...still amazes me just how many people have the wrong ideas about hypnosis in general, based on old movies and TV shows etc...

Sure hypnosis is valid. I use self-hypnosis, which is a little different from a practioner, but it helps me in all sorts of ways. At least I believe it does - which is the most important part. I wouldn't however be hynotised by anyone else. I feel we have to be in control (as far as possible) of ourselves and not let others take over.

I can't argue a lot there. I have had a number of Hypnotherapists try and orchestrate a session for me and I just will not relax enough to go into even the lightest stages of hypnosis. Thus far, my husband is the only C.Ht. I will actually do a full session with (trust is a biggie for me)

I went to a hypnotherapist once. It didn't work at all. But I definitely believe it works for some people. I have seen it work. Unfortunately for me, I didn't work for me though.

Is Hypnosis Real? - Hypnosis, Real?
I started a discussion on this very topic a week or so ago. I was curious to know how many people had been through hynotherapy, how many believed or not, and just a general concensous of the subject. I have never undergone hypnosis. I am not sure I believe in it or not. I am curious though and a part of me wants to believe in its' power. I would be interested in trying it to lose weight or quit smoking. Also, possibly at some point trying it to resolve issues of the past. I think a bigger part of me believes in it than doesn't, it is just that I listen to others skepticism. Thank you for the topic.
