In some countries, the teachers are not supposed to punish their students physically for their doings or for not studying and if the teachers do so there are laws against them to punish the teachers.Do you think as it is possible to make the students to study well only with polite advise and without punishing them? Will the students obey their teachers if they are much soft to them? Will not they misuse such laws? Do you think the laws against the teachers are essential?

I've taught in the US, Jordan, and Palestine. So i know a thing or two. Jordan implements or tries to implement a no physical punishment rule, very few follow it. Same with Palestine in private schools. In both countries there have been countless reports of a child actually dieing from a teacher that goes too far. Personally, i was in a school where the principle took the hitting of students seriously. Yet many teachers ignored the attempt he made to banish hitting students. Myself, i taught 6 - 8th grade boys.. and let me tell you.. they drove me freaking insane. In the states they get crazy but not like the bunch i had to deal with. No i didn't hit them. Not at first. First i took what power i had.. grades.. (evil laugh here)... i gave them a disciplinary test on what i explained or tried to explain to them for the week. Lemme tell ya.. when they saw i was serious about putting it in as part of their grades.. and talking to DAD.. not MOM.. more than half got quiet. Then even more would start listening to me when i told them good behaviour earned them a chance to turn that low score as extra credit towards any grade they got that was less than 75%. I had a few in each class that didnt care much.. but when i went for collective punishment... delay from lunch time... bringing in the homeroom teacher... etc... even cutting their time from playing soccer... even more control got into my hands. When did i start hitting... when it was more like.. a smack upside the head.. saying.. "you idiot"... more like a joke.. but it let them know they were going getting close to getting to my bad side. Homework was an issue for a few students.. again. i didnt hit them. why? i get feared by the behaved students and lose respect. I make phone calls, i take them aside after class... i had twice a week 1 hour after school open for any extra help a student needed. Or even that same day if i felt students weren't understanding a lesson. From the 4 classes... i had a total of 6 students that didn't respond to anything... mainly because their parents didnt care. I did all i can.. i made clear to the principle that i did all i can. So it is out of my hands. Hitting a student especially with pure anger is never okay.

I don;t think that the teachers will force the students to a situation so that they die.But there will be some exceptions for each and every thing and one or two cases may be like that. But every teacher is trying to control their students and to make them study well.In such attempt some thing may happen bad. But if the laws are against the teachers, then they may hesitate to say the students anything. They can never control them .Nowadays the students are not soft enough and they are highly talented. But their talent is not utilized for their studies. In that case, the teachers need to be little hard and rough to them for their welfare.I may be wrong in my views. But still I feel, the teachers should never be treated like criminals in the hands of law. Thanks for your response.

Thanks for replying.I am not in the view that the students should always be punished physically. It should be a rare case only.Even after laws against the teachers, the students are being punished physically. Most of the students used to commit mistakes because of their age.Such students will not be a problem to the teachers. But few students are there to torture and threat the teachers as the law and Governments are in favor to them. This is because of the laws. As you have mentioned, the same has happened when I was in school. One of my classmates is having problems in his heart.(Still). One of our teachers hit him on his back, much slightly .Suddenly my friend fainted and went unconscious. Then the teachers themselves sent him to the hospital and he recovered only after 13 days.We all, including the parents of my friend know well, the hit is not only the cause for that. But if something happened bad? From then, no teacher will even scold him.The physical punishment should be the final and only to the extreme students. If so the teachers should not be punished, unless they have any specific intention on some particular students.

The teachers should first try to explain the students in a soft manner. Still if they do not obey them can contact the parents and inform them, still if they did not obey, can give simple punishment like banning them from the classes for a couple of days. If the students likes a teacher, they simply obey them. In some cases the students will misuse the laws favourable to them. such students should be dealt with seriously

In that situation, the teacher becomes helpless. You are right . Definitely the future generation's fate will be unknown. But we can't change the law, but to request the Govt. to change the laws or consider the future of the children who are tomorrows' citizens.

Somehow I disagree. I do believe in physical punishment, but it become a problem when some teachers misused it. it kind hard to make pupils listen to you without you giving them warning and some kind of punishment as a reinforcement so that they listen to the teacher. Its ok if the pupils or the students are only less than five, but if the number of pupils are a lot more, among the easiest way to control pupils is through physical punishment, not as punishment it self, but more as a warning this will happen if you do not listen to the teacher. Punishment is there is not for solely to punish only, but as a way of lesson, but physical punishment should be done in a correct and right way, do not abuse the system.

As you have mentioned if the number of students become more and more , the teachers can not control them simply by giving advises. No student will hear to the teachers.Nowadays, the students are highly knowledge and they used to utilize their knowledge for their ill doings only in most of the cases. If we are able to bring them by simply advising, if it is possible, then there is no need of Police force in any of the countries to control and prevent the crimes in the public( this not related to the students) Are we able to change the criminals by simply advising them? Why the Governments having police force? Why can not they advise them? The fact is no one can prevent such ill doings just by advising. We should be harsh to some extent. At the same time, we should not punish the students for each and every thing. If the teachers are controlled by the laws, we can not expect any standard in the education in any way. Also I don't think the teachers will misuse their right if they are allowed to punish the students. But they may avoid he initial step of advising. This should not be there with the teachers. Thanks for sharing your view and really valuable points are there in your response.
