Why is free speech, free thinking so difficult?

We see more often that there is censoring at various levels. As communities grow there are more rules and regulations, trying to control various behaviours and activities. They more often fail then succeed. But why is there such a natural inclination to curb, control things?

There are so many people that hide behind the "its my opinion" "i have the right to free speech" when they are talking rubbish and often offend and hurt people. Just because its someone opinion on a subject and they have the right to say it doesnt make it any less hurtful to the others involved. Well i hope you can get what im saying, just extend it to the bigger picture.

I agree with you. To get hurt by some rubbish is our folly. We do not react to mad people. Similarly, it is our reaction which hurts, that is how we respond makes all the difference. We give the power to others to hurt or make us happy.
