They have beaten the mighty Aussies and now look to be a good side under the captaincy of Andrew Strauss. Can they be better than India and South Africa?

They have a chance but they need flintoff to be fit and since he has retired from test cricket now i doubt they can do it. The Aussies are not as good as they were they had no warne or lee this time so the side was not at its best.

I don't think England will become a top side in the near future. Yes, they beat Australia, but Australia were very much weakened. What we were watching was a contest between two very average sides. Both England and Australia have lost recently to India and South Africa and it's clear that they are the two top sides. I imagine they will remain so for quite some time. I do think, though, that England are on the way up, just as Australia are on the way down.

Even though I supported England in the recently concluded Ashes., I have my doubts about its capacity to sustain this highly charged performance. Remember, that England lack a quality All rounder. They need a Good All rounder to replace Flintoff. Sure, Broad's name is doing the rounds, but I have am sure Bowlers will be happier bowling to him rather than Flintoff. Also, England's middle order is very very inconsistent and this was all the more evident in the recent series. Peiterson's spot looks difficult to fill up. In one word, No. England doesn't' have in them to become the No.1 Test side.

ya there is a chance for every team tobe on top if it plays good .... england as won ashes showed that it has ability to become a no.1 team

i think ENGLAND can not become NO.1 test side now. but they have play consistently well and defeat other competetive countries like SA,SRILANKA,INDIA and they have to win the following ashes in AUSTRALIA..........

I would say rather Australia is not the No.1. That was the main cause of England's Victory. It is hard to say unless we watch India or South Africa playing and judge their current form. Till today Both India and South Africa are at the top. England also lacks good players especially No Flintoff for test matches. So in the absence of the super all-rounder, England will have to struggle very very hard to be the number 1.

I doubt that.England have won the ashes by beating an amateur Australian side. And Australia made their mistakes in selecting the team. All in all resulted in the loss of ashes to Aussies but i don't think England can be no.1 side in test cricket

Nope No. 1 is a bit longer journey for them. And now with the departure of Flintoff i think it would be more difficult for England to have another good all-rounder. Have a good day. Happy Mylotting ;)

absolutely not, they cannot be no.1 in world test cricket as they are playing only ashes series very seriously & they work hard to win it but apart from ashes they are not taking all series seriously & nt wrking harder on that as ashes that I thnk, they have ability if they wrk hard in all series as ashes bt they are not so I dont think they can bit specially India & south africa...

i don't think so. they have also beaten the aussies in 2005 and there was much hype that time but what happened. to become no 1 test side they must won the matches outside their country and maintain continuity.
