Items you were attached to

When you were a child, was there one item that you were particularly attached to? If there was, what was it? Do you want to share why you were attached to it? For me it was my stuffed lamb, Lila. Lila was given to me when I was 13 years old, so I was far from being a young child. My father picked her out for me for an Easter gift and she was just wonderful. The next year my father passed away so Lila became even more important to me. Her fleece has caught many tears when I thought my world was coming to an end. She was there for the death of my father and a really good friend of mine. She was there when I had relationships go bad. Even today, as an adult and mother, she is there for me when I am having a particularly bad time in my life.

The only thing I can remember being attached to was this stuffed animal. He was grey with a pink stripe running up his back. His name was PJ he had this compartment in his behind that you could hide things in. I had this friend I went to go see and gave PJ away to a neighbor friend of hers. I kind of feel bad now because I miss PJ a lot.

Perhaps PJ had the opportunity to be as important to someone else as he was for you. That is the best way to think about it because in thinking that way you give comfort to yourself.

I guess i was already all about making money even when I was little.. because when I was young, I had a big coinbox where i save all my money, and that was the most important thing for me. I save up money, then I buy stuff from the store like ball point pens, candies, etc etc... then I get a table and line them up in the house and re-sells them to my mom, sister, cousins...

hello there Dora and happy day to ya:)when i was born my parents bought me this brown moneky with a yellow face and i called him Cocoa.I dont remember much about him but i have seen many pictures of me and him, when i was about 6 yras old i had a meduim sized stuffed dog that was gray and i do remember never going anywhere without him.his name was Scruffy, when i got my tonsils out i was soo scared and held tight onto him, when i went to the operation room they even let me bring him in with me,and i guess i never loosened my grip on him,and when i woke up he was stil in the same hand i went in with lol..i still have him and passed him onto my son thats 7,.he however has no care in teh world for him so i took him back, hes more appreciated on my bed hahah!! and one last thing, when i was 11 my dad found a huge conk shell and gave it to me,my dad and i had a bad relationship that i cant get into, and he pretty much never liked me when i was young thought we are best friends now, anyways i fel in love with the shell and love the sound of the ocean, and when i missed him when mom made him leave,i would just listen and feel content and knew everything would be ok someday..they never got back together but he and my relationship grew and grew..and yes i still have that too:) byeee! It is so wonderful that you had the conch shell that your dad gave to you when times were tough for you. And about your dog, funny thing is that my son's puppy that he carries around with him is named Scruffy as well. His scruffy is brown though, and wears blue jeans and a Harley Davidson T-shirt (he made him at Build a Bear when he was a year old).

It is so cool that you are able to share your pillow with your child. My daughter too is particularly attached to a pillow. I'm sure she is going to keep it with her until she is an adult. It has to go everywhere with her, and is even known to ride in the car to school with her in the mornings.

Wow that's great!unfortunately I had no item which has a sentimental value. All my things were left home and none of them sounds like very important or has some emotional attachment to me.

I don't think that all people have something that they were particularly attached to. Were it not for Lila when I was a teenager, I wouldn't be able to think of an item that I was particularly attached to.

Well, I had an autograph from my junior years where my friends wrote nice things about me. I kept that autograph for many years. It provided me with fond memories when we were young and the innocent thoughts we had. Our world knew no violence or fear or hate. All we had were affections, love and care for each other. Every time I look at the autograph, a flood of memories will sweep me back to those times. I am still very attached to this item until today.

I have something similar to this as well. Well, actually two things. The first one is an autograph sheet that we made when I was in fifth grade. I really expected a couple of the people that I went to school with to become famous some day, so I held on to that. And, one of them is actually famous as a professional baseball player. Then, when I was in high school I had all of my friends write personal messages to me in a book. That I still keep in my bedside table and will read through it when I am feeling down.

The child-hood item I was most attatched to was my horse. I really didn't have many toys, per se, but I did have my horses since I was 5. My horse and I were inseparable, and we spent lots of time together. When I was sad, lonely, or whatever, I went out to my horse and she was like my comforting, non-judgemental friend. As far as toys go, I wasn't really ever attatched to any of them lol.

I don't think that all people get attached to a toy. It is great that you had your horse as your best friend. More than anything in the world, I think it is great for a child to have a non-judgemental friend.

I think I've seen the toy that you are talking about. I believe my mother also had one when she was a child. But, you can't say that it is worn thin in some spots, it would be much more appropriate to say that it is well loved.

Waldo the walrus. He was a huge stuffed walrus, originally bigger than I was. As I got older his tusks fell out, his flippers fell out, I tried to sew them back in, but eventually he got so shabby I gave up. But he's definitely the thing I was the most attached to for years and years and years.

I had a teddy bear and a blankie that I was always attached to. I actually still have them both now. They really meant a lot to me as a child and it means a lot to me that I still have those items to cherish today! I couldn't go anywhere without either bear or blankie!

I too still have the item of my affection. It's funny that when I was a young child I didn't have anything that I was particularly attached to, and for me it came when I was a bit older.

Thanx for jarring my memory on this..When I was little stuff my mom had an old 78rpm of Peter and the Wolf. It was one of a very few of her classical collection that had survived shipping from Texas..They shipped in barrels in those days and the rough handling did her fragile records no good..I can remember hearing this record before I can remember almost anything else. As I got older there was a new distraction. When I was 2 my little brother showed up. I can remember my mom fussin' with the household stuff and doting over the new arrival and when I'd start feeling alone I would ask if I could listen to Peter and the Wolf..and she'd stop what she was doing, go pull out the old mono record player and set it to going..And I'd either sit or lay on the big bed and listen and, I suppose, drift back into that comfort zone of my young years when I had been the center of attention. I no longer have the original record but I still have a great love for Peter and the Wolf.. And again, thank you for giving me the opportunity of remembering that and reaching for that comfort zone now 50+ years gone..ENJOY!

You're quite welcome for having your memory jarred on your childhood memories. I think it is neat that you used the record as a comfort when you felt like the world wasn't going your way. What a great comfort you must have found with Peter and the Wolf.

When I was younger I was very attached to a toy bus I used to own, I probably still would be but I have no idea what a slightly older younger me did with it! It was metal and because it was used so much it ended up pretty much just grey metal even though it started off a deep red, and remember that I tried to paint it with a pink watercolour once (it was meant to be red but ended up pink, can't quite remember why, I hated pink lol!). It was called Bussy and I even used to write stories with him in and such things. Even though he is now gone Bussy has left me with a bus liking legacy and I still smile whenever I see red double deckar buses :) Nice question, it has awakened some really happy memories in me :) Happy mylotting, Dranz

What a neat story. I think it's cool that you wrote stories about Bussy. I bet those would be a lot of fun to read.

It's funny how I really don't remember having any major attachment to anything when I was a child. The only thing I can think of was when I was 16. ha. My boyfriend bought me a stuffed monkey. I slept with it every night. When I started taking college courses so I could graduate high school early, I'd take my monkey along in my backpack. (Making sure no one saw it, of course.) I was the youngest in all my classes. And I was terrified, to say the least. It was such a comforting feeling to have it with me. Was it childish? Maybe. But I'm proud to say that I don't need to sleep with the monkey anymore. My boyfriend from 7 years ago is now my husband, and he's there to comfort me every night.

Congratulations of marrying your boyfriend from seven years ago. No, I don't think it was childish that you carried your monkey with you in your backpack. When I was in college I had my lamb with me every night that I was in the dorm.
